Default Window Fuse keeps Blowing???

Fuse #21 on my Weissach (power window controls, central door locking system) keeps blowing. Funning thing is that it will only blows when I move the passenger side window. The Drivers side will work on a 16 amp fuse.

I have tried the required 25 amp fuse twice. I blows immediately when I push the passenger side window switch.

The window is down, no garage tonight, and we are supposed to get some pretty good thunderstorms tonight

ANy Ideas? I am going out there now to see if I can pull the window switch for inspection.

thanks in advance for any help.

Look in the loom that goes from the door to the car, prop a pinched wire.

Thanks for the quick reply. I look at the loom as best I could, as I really don't know which one it is. I moved some of the wires leading from the central panel that went into the door area.

I am curious if this could be a central alam issue? From disecting the switch as much as I did it looks ok and seems to be clean. Is there a way to test the switch for a problem? I am not sure what I should check on the switch and what the amps/volts should be on the meter.

if you can remove the side console panel you should be able to test the switch or the connector that the switch plugs into for a short to ground, most likly place is the door shroud area where the harness goes into the door , have you had any of the passenger side door panels off recently?

MrMerlin, I am not clear if the side console panel you are refering to is the lower door panel? I have had the car 4 months and have not been in the passenger door.

I have taken the switch out of it's holder and removed the rocker part. I have removed the copper plates and reinstalled. I have not disaseembled any further on the switch. I figured that I could check the amps at the 4 wires that are on the back of the switch??

Since the weather is changing and there are thunderstorms building nearby I have secured the open window and door for now. I will probably not be able to work on it until Wednesday as it is supossed to rain cats, dogs and frogs over the next 24 hours.

I would like to isolate the switch, switch wiring as the problem.

You know what. the only thing that has changed that could be affecting the switch is the shifter **** assembly. I removed it yesterday to clean and refresh and was banging around in the area that the wires run for the switch...
I will check this as soon as I can. I forgot about that run of wires and I could have pinched them.

Thanks for the help. First the 5 speed shifter area, then the door panel. I will let y'all know.

I thought I would update what I found.

I removed the console trim on the passenger side, traced the passenger window switch wire to a connector near the heater outlet and found that the PO must have ahd a problem before since it was not a complete connection. The wires were loose and shorting out. I fixed it so there will be no more shorts in this connection.

Honestly I am suprised that I did not see that before since I have been working on the radio and installing a new trim piece with the original clock on the console.

Thanks to SeanR and MrMerlin for thier assistance. You were right on.

Well it probably just fell apart when you were working on the radio. The connectors are OK as long as everything is together and undamaged. They are easily replaced with similar ones on both sides of the connection.

I have seen new window switches that had 4 wires that had to have connectors crimped onto them instead of the wires terminating in a plastic connector housing like a replacement part usually should have, maybe this was done to make the switch useful in more than one year of car
