Default Led dash lights and guage trim?

I was wondering who's converted their dash lights to LED's? My instrument light are very dimm sometimes I even wonder if their on? I'm getting ready to pull my pod and I was thinking about doing the LED upgrade. I found this on eBay what do you guys think about it?

I was also thinking of installing the chrome guage trim as well found here

Let me know what you guys think of these.

VERY detailed and covers just about every light on or in the 928, with pics!

As for the rings, i usually like some nice trim around the gauges and if i had an 88 or older car would look for some. But those ones dont look like rings per say. I know they are round but they look more like aluminum can cross sections then rings. They dont have any detail, its just a flat piece. I think there are much nicer ones available then those ones. I would look for something else if I were you.

hard to argue with the price though. But i would imagine that once you installed them, they would look like a $12 think from some crappy mail order catalog. I love detailed gauges. There are few things you look at more often in the inside of a car then its gauges, but those cheapen it up for me allot.

Find someone making replica Aston Martin gauges, those things are bitchin!, they look like little Rolex's

HTML Code:
were they a direct fit?
Hmm; hard to answer....

Currently there are 3 triangular reflective plastic pieces (one for each existing bulb) that distribute the light.
You have to remove these three (Dremel is useful!) then glue the 3 self adhesive LEDs onto the place they were.
You snake each wire from each LED through the hole that the light came through (hard to explain but clear when you see it) then take out each bulb holder. Remove the bulb from the holder and wedge the specially shaped end of each wire into each bulb holder (where the bulb fitted) & put the holder back. You have to be sure you wedged the wires correctly in the holder to respect the polarity; if not you have to turn them 180 degrees.

Cheers

Jason,

This is probably one of the best upgrades I've done on the 79. The 79 is very similar to your 81 and WAY different than the later 89 and up cars as you've got a mirror type of reflected light beam up on your gauges. I did this gauge rings and the red LED style upgrades and like it WAY better than what my stock GTS has right now. (Hopefully will upgrade to something like Keith W's in the future)

Anyhoo, attached are some pics (some good, some not so much) but will give you an idea of how the setup looks. Everything I got was from Jager and was pretty much plug and play although you do need to do some mods to the bottom of the gauge cluster itself. The pod switches were #74 LEDs that were plug and play and very inexpensive. Very fun project with too many wyait's to list right here. Let me know if you have any questions on it.

Thanks for the pics, I like the guage trim Chuck, i have the same wheel, but the stock momo horn button. I may have to put this on my list to do.

Say, do your kids get a wild hyper streak in them now and then?
Is that his coffee mug too

Scott,

Just did a search, looks like it's still avail on the market.
http://www.sportscar-parts.com/steering_wheels.html

Buy it from one of the 928 guys. Roger, Quick Carl, DR, etc. I'm sure they can get it.
Love mine too!!

Those are some awesome dashes. I can only hope that mine looks half as good once I'm done. Jason

Chuck,

I personally approve of the "pre-game last minute beer run" footwear seen in the bottom picture.

ehehehehehe

Your gauges and steerring wheel are awesome. I should bill you for the money I'm about to spend, after all it's your fault!!!

Just ordered the 928 Auto Sport shifter and boot combo from Carl at 928Motorsports, and now I feel like my steering wheel and gauges are too plain after seeing your pictures.
