Cool Reastoration Complete!!! Pics...

Here are some pics of the final product. It's a 83'300hp(Euro) converted to a Polar Silver/Flamenco Red 95'GTS. It took almost a year, but it's now alot nicer than any GTS that I have seen.

I have seen alot of posts concerning the indiglo Gauges. Well here they are. They have been shipping them for almost a month. Anybody can now order. I went for the "stock look". They are normal white numbers on black face. At night, the light-up a really cool blue/white. I also got the Gauge-Rings.

Enjoy

I turned off the flash in this picture. The guage-rings can be seen better without the flash.

Also note that the needles CAN be seen with the factory front lights. I didn't even need to upgrade the bulbs.

Weissach,

That is a fantastic job. And I would like to thank you for getting things going on the gauges, as I have mine but won't get them installed till next summer. They look great!

Wow, very nice interior!. Guages look great too.

Great job! I'd be afraid to sit in it. LOL!

The crest on the ash tray looks like a keyfob crest. Am i right?

Wow, thats a lot of work! I'd like to find the indiglo gauges that have more of a stock font on them though, so I'm probably out of luck but on another note, nice eclipse head unit! I have that same one in my S4. I put the brain in the location of the stock amp and trimmed the cover, is that what you did? Oh, and thats a little too red for me, looks like lipstick hehe, but nice work though. So its an 83, but you have the airbag steering wheel in it? Is that functional? . I'll look forward to the exterior shots. Good work! And I really like the crest on the ashtray as well .

Very nice job! These indiglo gauges DO look good!

Now, did you paint the interior panels, dash, console, switches, etc? Or did you have them covered in leather or vinyl?

Are those seats from a 944, 968, or 911?

Can you explain more what that monitor in the console does? Is this just a stereo, or does it also function as a navigation system?

Thanks, and keep up the great work!

Nicole, I have those seats in my 1982 928 and they were the factory sport seats. Like I have mentioned before, sit in them and it feels like someone is hugging you from behind. Everyone that rides in the car comments on the comfort of the seats.

Thanks for the Great post. Your Shark looks Hot! Great job!Thank you for the indiglo Gauges update too. The Crest looks to me like the one I got off a 1958 or 1959 Porsche 356a White Cabrio. She had nice small crest.

I have an entire folder listing all the mods. It would take an entire website to list them. Since I have had ALOT of 928s, I have discovered alot of little tricks.

These cars are getting to that age when most need a good restoration. You can restore to factory specs or do a "Better than New" restoration. Keep your cars and make them REALLY nice.

Some points. 1. The crest on the ash tray is the same crest that is used on the center wheel caps. They are the perfect size, not to big-not to small(looks factory). They are also cheap, only $15. I got them from Vertex www.vertexauto.com . It's not listed on their website so you will have to call them up (305)-442-2727.

The 928s interior is of cheaper quality than most poeple think. It has really good leather and REALLY cheap plastic. So, if you want the ashtray to look good -- wrap it in leather. It's worth it! I also have "Hidden LEDs" in the headliner like the new Audis and BMWs. It casts a very soft glow and it shines up the crest at night, it looks very good.

2. The sound system is incredible. I have an integrated DVD,CD-mp3 changer under the glovebox. You can see it in one of the pictures. I have the rest of the unit under both seats. This includes the Navigation,Brain,TV tuner, small computer running on Windows(80-Gig hard drive full of mp3 AND some 928 video clips).
MB-quart speaker pushed by two Extant amps. And finally, two JL-Audio 12" Subs.

3. The trim was the hardest part. It took alot of work to get right. The seats are stadard 911 seats from a 1991 C2. These seats are almost the same as the 1985-up 928 seats. They have less power(no front and back power). Besides the power, the only change is the center leather pattern. Since it's simpler, it lasts and looks better for many more years(unlike the 928s).
They were dyed using leatherique. Their dye is WAY better than the factory dye, so is should lasts longer than new.
The most of the interior was done with this stuff. It's almost impossible to remove. The swiches on the pod were also done like this. It's interesting to note that Porsche does the very same thing to color match their interiors. They don't make all new *****, they simply paint them. I noticed this on my brother 1997-993. His window swiches are "color coded" to match the rest of the interior(tan). Well, it's chipping of now. This won't happen on my car because the dye is much better. Most of the interior is leather(not the dash).
The airbag steering wheel is of a GTS and yes it works.

The dash was it's own little project. This dash WAS cracked. As you all know, the dash is the most important part of a 928s interior. If the dash is bad, your whole interior is bad. But these dashes are VERY expensive. Most of the venders are asking over $400-up for dashes with only small cracks, CRACKS!! SO, I had to fix this dash myself. I have tried everything, nothing works or looks good. Even if you rewrap it in leather, it never looks perfect. So, after alot of research, I found a solution.

It's very similar to what many stereo shops do to make custom speaker pods. It's very simple and effective. If your dash is cracked(not warped), you can do it yourself. Fiberglass the whole dash. The resin will cover all the cracks. After it dries, come back and sand it down(alot of work). Once you are happy that it's PERFECT, it's time to add texture. I used under body sound rubber spray. It makes a smooth texture that looks factory. Sand that down with a 600-grit paper. Once that is perfect, dye or paint to match your interior. It's ALOT of work, but I now have a PERFECT dash that will last longer that the original. This dash will lasts 70years in the sun.

If you are scared to try it yourself, take of your dash and take it to a good sound shop that does this type of work(don't tell them it's for a Porsche!, say it's for an old toyota). With less that $200, you can have your perfect dash.

Thanks Wow that was Wonderful. Okay What kind of resin, Only resin no fiberglass reinforcements strands or cloth or mat. It seem to me it would need somthing. Resin would be easy to spray on but without the matting or cloth it would crack again. Resin is very hard and brakes, also very hard to sand. Did you sand it by hand or use a powersander? Also what brand of spray body sound rubber spray? under coating? Was it spray can type? Please if you can post the Brand names of each item. Thanks So much you are Wonderful! Best to you, Britt Also where you we buy leatherique. Thanks so much!
