Randy,
Not sure what you mean regarding a poll. Like which model year and how long?

I bought my '82, in March of 2001. It was badly abused. I completely redid the interior/exterior and engine. I had my first Porsche in 1973 (914 2.0), and really enjoyed it. In 1974, I purchased my first 911 2.7L. Great car, and lots of fun. But the truth is that I enjoy this 928 more then any other car that I have ever owned. I love the way it sounds when I start it. It handles like a race car, and when it is clean, there is nothing on the road that compares. The only reason that I would consider selling it, would be to upgrade to an S-4.

Survey says! (thus far, anyway) about 10% of us have owned our cars for 10+ years, almost 50% of us have cars that we have only had for a year or two, and almost 30% of us have had more than one 928.
Randy - That's a tough question. From all the interesting info people have provided, I don't think that one poll could show our cross section. Maybe a poll isn't such a good idea; just let this string run its course & maybe become a "yearbook" of sorts.

I have had my '89GT for almost two years and am hanging on to it by a thread as I get closer to losing my job every month. I am hopeful I can keep it as this is the best car I have ever owned. The only new cars I like are so far beyond what I can afford, I will keep my GT as long as possible. Happy holidays to all!

Well, I have had my 86.5 about 5 months now.
My 914/6 stopped some absent minded guy's Golf from running a red light 4 years ago. After butting heads with his insurance company for 3 1/2 yrs, and undergoing knee surgery for a related injury, the medical advice was to get an automatic and put the six away at least until I heal. I asked my Porsche dealer freind (who could have any model he wanted, and had always chosen 911S and Turbos), what he was driving. He said he drove a 928 In shock, I questioned his choice (big V-8, front engined....and I began in Porschedom in the days when Porsche people actually flashed at each other). He said not to knock it until I had tried it.
So I tried an '84 auto and that did it; I had to have one. I looked for awhile, and found my 86.5 for a "reasonable" price though it needed "some work" and could be a nice daily driver. ( I had an automatic Rabbit for a back up
I almost bought a VERY nice SC Targa, yellow in great shape, but the knee injury dictated an automatic.
This past weekend, I spotted a beautiful teal M-B 500 SL and sat in it only to get back in my 928 shaking my head saying that I preferred the 928.
At 126,000 miles, it leaks and uses zero oil, has a great transmission (starts in first !),
and is being slowly transformed to an acceptable state, with the help of DEVEK. (Nicole said they transformed hers and they are doing it to mine too, it seems.)
The one exasperating quality I have found though is the tendency to attract idiots who want to challenge it. Trucks, Hondas, Mustangs, etc. Another is the rear hatch rattle which was aggravated by the addition of Koni shocks. recently
Maybe I'll keep it forever, like my 914/6 and the silver 993 I haven't found yet.

I bought my first an 86.5 around ThanksGiving of last year. I sold it after I found a great deal on my current 87S4 in April of this year.

We bought an 83 in August, found the current one the first of October, took ownership the first of November this year. Why did I sell the first one? My wife said if we are going to own a Porsche it should be red and it should be a 5 speed!
Hope to keep this one for a long time. We both enjoy it.

I have owned my shark for a short 18 months. I was 18 years old painting them and other high end cars in Largo Florida. It makes a great gift to yourself. Sounds funny, but this car has been more fun than my ex-wife.

I got my first P-car in 1963, a 356 C while in college. From there I have owned over 17 P-cars....356, 911, 924, 993 and 928's. I have had 4 928's...the first, an auto 82, then a 84 auto, a 79 Euro and presently, a 81 STROSEK widebody. P-cars have always been alot of fun and reasonably decent cars with respect to depreciation. If I would have held some of the early 356 cabs and one speedster....well, you get the drift. The 81 STROSEK is not only wild, but has the speed, look and presence of its breed. All in all, I kept the 928s the least amount of time, usually less than a year. The STROSEK will break that record...its been here about 14 months and looks like it may join the stable of other favorites that I own. BEST WISHES FOR HOLIDAYS and A VERY PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR!

Hey Doc, let's see a pic or 2 of that Strosek!
I've owned my shark for almost a year now. PO clocked 2k miles in two years; me: 9k in 9 months. bwaaahooooooo!

I've had mine (1987) for 20 months now but have been driving it for exactly one year. The poor thing was abandoned for 8 years and after many months, it's finally back on the road. It still needs a few things but I plan on keeping it for a loooong time.

I've had my S4 for 8 months, but I waited 15 years to get it.
Unfortunately, other things always seemed to take precedence (house down payment, business etc.) But looking back, I should've bought it sooner. Makes me feel good just looking at it ,
working on it makes me feel better , driving it..... well, you all know about that one
