Got a great deal on a front spoiler for my 82 928. But do I need to drill holes in the front quater panels???

'fraid so. As I recall there are only two holes per side on the quarter panels, just forward of the wheel wells. Good luck.

Chucker,

There are those two holes a side on the quarter panels as well as one more a side right in the bend. I'm not sure if you to drill holes for those though.

Just been through the process of removing mine and putting it back on.

All the best!

Chucker-

One suggestion from someone who's spoiler is cracked from road impacts...take a dremel cutting wheel or a hacksaw and make a slice in the spoiler so that it can flex without breaking. I'd make one on both sides, just outside the brake ducts. This way, if your spoiler scrapes when you decend a steep driveway, the front section will bend under without pulling the side sections. If you don't cut it...it will end up breaking about those places anyway! Mine is broken on both sides, and I repaired it by drilling it and putting tie-wraps through the holes.

And when you install the spoiler, use substantially oversize washers for the 4 wheel well attachment points. I took the round sheet metal disks that carpenters use to nail tar paper down onto roofs, and drilled them out to accomodate the attaching hardware. The spoiler has a tendency to crack around the holes and will do so early if you bottom out as pointed out by a previous poster.

The large washers will halp to hold the spoiler in place and limit the stress on the holes, which limits cracking. I glued the washers in place on mine because the holes already had radius cracks as long as 1 inch.

Thanks to all that replied. I just finished putting on the new tires and polishing the rims. Now I'm ready to tackle the spoiler. I am going to paint it to match the car (along with the rear spoiler and the rear bumber pads and the trim that goes around the front fog/driving lights). <img src="graemlins/a_smil17.gif" border="0" alt="[blabla]" />

Chucker - if you're going for the whiteout look, don't forget to paint the chrome trim rings around your headlights - (check the SOCAL 928 picture board for some shots of Keith's with the painted rings at:

Of course, if you really want to get carried away, how about some white wall tires?
