Post Dash pad cover... Yes - No?

The PO gave me one of these plastic dash pad covers with the car. Since my dash pad is seriously cracked and I can't seem to win an auction at ebay for a reasonably priced one, I am thinking about putting it on. At least in the mean time until I can find a good new dash.
Acouple of questions:
- Has anyone tried one? Do they look good or pretty flimsy?
- It's black and I need it to be burgundy. What paint would I use and where can I buy it?
- My windshield is coming out in a couple of days. It looks to me as if the pad cover could slide right on with the windshield out. Does anyone know?
Thanks,
Sab.

Another chance to show my ever changing interior

I am very happy with mine but it is the inexpensive one ( I too hope to improve my dash one day) and I do not know how it compares to the ones offered by the Big 3.

If interested I can give you the email address to get one.

Jerry - what did Jager charge you for the custom color red 'short shifter boot'?

I've been thinking of adding a 'short boot' in a color to match my interior.

Sebastian - I've had a custom dash cover for a couple years, though don't recall where I got it. I opted to replace the cracked pod rather than use a cover on it:

Randy,
I tracked your open -air sHARk back to a PhotoDraw file, one of the first 928 flicks - I even save EBAY flicks - I saved.
I think this is the first - seen similar - good close up Of the leather. Correct me if I am wrong :
Rear seats, rear console, front console cover and lower dash are original.
Door inserts and front seats re=covered.
Is the lower dash leather?
What color/matierial on the rear - I guess... -
quarters?
I don't think anyone was this nosy before...
What did you do about seat belts?

Yes, Jager made the short boot and the cover for the parking brake. This is the best picture I have - will be taking more later.

Cool

Very, very, nice interiors. My PO put a plastic cap on, kinda. Some of the plastic caps require the leather to be taken off before installation. He didn't take off the leather, but tried to use hot glue. His wife's Crafts hot glue gun I'm sure. Looks like crap around the edges. Not being properly installed it has begun warping from the heat. It rattles and squeaks. I would rather have the split leather showing. The fit around the glove box doesn't please the eye either. I too, am looking for a dash, although the "Just Dashes" work looks tempting. The pod caps just don't look quite right with or without the dash caps. I will not replace it with plastic. Do it right, then protect it with a pad like these above.

I'm thinking about a cover while I'm just running around to protect and going naked when I'm "out and about" doing shark gatherings and what not...what's ya think?

Jerry, I can't help noticing that you deftly avoided answering my question, so I'll try again:

How much?

Thanks.

Hi all,
My dash was WASTED, the PO had tried to patch the cracks with something that, years of sun later, looked like red nail polish (dash is black). So, being an older, not-so-perfect shark, I decided that the plastic "cap" would be the best way to go. I couldn't stand the look of the carpet cover, so glued the cap on..looks ALOT better, but I didn't use enough RTV around the heater vents, so it's starting to warp a little. I'm going to make a little nozzle wand thingy and see if I can squirt some more under there, and clamp it down till it's dry. If anyone tries this, have alot of clamps and extra hands around to hold it for a few minutes, especially on the pod pieces!
Bottom line: I didn't spend a fortune ($119, I think) and it looks good to me. Like I said, this car is never going to be concourse, but she sure looks alot better than when I bought her!

Now enough of this interior nonsense, I've gotta get back under the hood....
Cheers.

Eric,

There was a guy who busted his windshield by wedging something between the glass and the dash to hold the cap while the glue dried. Apparently, these windshields can take very little from the inside.

Just a word of caution.

Yeah, I read that, too..
Probably why I haven't even glued my rear view mirror mount back on yet...
I just used some books on top of the cap, without pressing on the glass at all.
Thanks for the reminder, my windshield is perfect and I'd like to keep it that way!!

Cheers,
Eric

Randy, also forgot to comment that your car looks great.

I think the short shift boot was $39 (bought so much not sure of each item) - at least that it what it says on his web site.

Another comment about the dash cap - it looks better in person - most consider it an upgrade when they see it. Best of all is that stops the sun from radiating off the dash and I dont have to keep noticing that one crack that I could never repair satisfactorily.

Randy, look closely at my picture - I also sprayed my door speaker covers with an aluminum paint - figured I would have to get out the black paint soon after but I think it looks good enough to stay.

Thanks Jerry.

I thought there was an additional cost of that boot for colours other than black?

Yes, the aluminum grills do tie in nicely with the other aluminum highlights you've added.
