Tranny was just rebuilt about a year or two ago. And seems to work just fine.

I might have been a little optimistic on how many rpm's I can get it up to - but at least 2500 - 3000...

I'm serious. I have an AT. I know how to get the tranny into 1st gear. I keep one foot on the brake, run the rpm's up to ~3-4K, let off the brake...

And I launch nicely - but no smoke!

Yes, I know, smoking the tires is for show only and serves no purpose. But Dave Lomas makes fun of me cuz my rears (tires, that is) are still in way too nice shape. I feel like a failure!

Too much gas in the tank. Mine only spin when it is close to empty. 255/45-17's.

Hmm... I'll have to try that.

Does the LSD play a role?

Edit: If so, can it be turned off?

I think so, I drove a none LSD auto and it would destroy the RR tire.

The Drag racing guys "SEEM" to be more friendly than the other types of racing that I have been involved with, as far as the drivers go anyway.
Dick was and still is a great crew chief, driver and teacher, just look at his daughter Kim, or her husband the great Tim Richards who wrenched Joe Amoto to all of his wins.

I meet Joe a few times and he was a great guy when I was head of maintenance at the Atlanta Valvoline plant and at some of the NHRA races in Dixieland.

I ordered some parts from his parts house (Keystone) and I will be dammed if he did not call me to check on that order, not knowing that I had, and still did work for his major sponsor.
Great guy.

Rod Fuller is my top fuel guy right now, and of course John Force in the coupes, John has been friendly and out going since I first meet him when Kenny B was still king. I could tell you some stories about Kenny B, but if you are a drag race fan you know about his personality.

They are running 90% this year. HoooYaa

Greg Nettles.

PS, ya going to the gators? fuel cars at night on Friday?

If you are a NHRA fan, we need to talk.

Mine is not running right now so I cant test it, but I cant imagine it going over 2000-2200 with the stock convertor.
A higher stall speed will usually make one quicker to light the tires.
Does it spin the tires and not smoke them, or does it just hook and go?

Am I a drag race fan? I am wearing an Dodge Boys Pro Stock shirt signed by Darrell Alderman(moody) and the late Scott geoffrion(really nice guy) right now. We had plans to go but we had a family member pass away this week and we are driving home as I write this, less than 2 hours away.

My condolences on your loss.

There are a few of us going to the Friday night session at Commerce ( Atlanta) next month, If you can make it, come on up.

I can tell you some inside info on what happened to "Wayne County Speed Shop", and the break-in, of course none of it may be true.

You mean those stratigically placed sledgehammer shots by warren johnson on those rifle drilled NOS carrying cast iron blocks.

Solid.

On early engines also separate lower part of the block which is below crankshaft was made from Alusil. This was changed to some other material once factory found suitable stuff which expands at same rate as Alusil.

Here is part of a discussion between myself and another NHRA fan about that.
Me thinks there was more going on there than WJ.

"The funny-thing about that entire incident was that week, I was traveling on-business via car, and I had many race-car haulers going int o the opposite direction to that weekend's upcoming race (New Jersey in May? ), and one of the teams that passed me was the Wayne County caravan of race-car haulers & support/chase vehicles!!!!!

If they truly had been broken into, and had no motors or blocks left, why would they be towing their equipment to the races?

I've always suspected that while en-route, NHRA silently told them to 'not show-up', and then the Dodge Boys concocted the break-in story for general consumption.

No tools were 'supposedly' taken, no heads, intake, camshafts, no even the Featherlite trailers were touched, just the blocks:
no insurance money was ever paid to Wayne County, because Wayne County never filed a claim to their insurer....."

Makes ya wonder.
I also heard some things from one of my friends that was a racing rep for one of the major manufactures who traveled with the gypsies from event to event.
He told me some things about the drug charges and why he (Allderman) did not get the lifetime boot like some other drivers did for lesser charges.

I think the thing I hate most about drag racing is the cheaters. prostock seems to be the worst in the pro ranks.

Not the guy that makes a honest mistake, but the guy that has a N2O tank in his battery or his oil pan.

I wonder where Anderson is hiding his at?

However, it can be a hand full when conering at suburban speeds in slippery conditions. With too much throttle, too quickly the transmission may suddenly downshift in the middle of a turn and give you a nice pucker! Once you get used to it, it's not a problem. The car is a lot easier to drive in traffic because a much smaller movement of the accelerator will take you down a gear. It probably doesn't help my gas mileage but it's so much fun.
Thanks a ton for answering this. I was just fixing to bump this forward and try again.

It "sorta" just hooks and goes. When I let up on the brake and floor the loud pedal, I'll get a split-second pause - during which revs drop very slightly - then it goes.
