WTB: ready-to-paint S4 rear wing. Guidance requested
Hi All,
What's the state of thought with regards to getting a painted S4 wing these days?
I want to maintain the original item in case the painted look isn't what we want, or the car should be returned to stock for whatever reason.
So, do I buy a used, factory S4 or GTS wing and prep it to paint? I know it can be done, but both need prep, no? Particularly the textured S4 wing, which needs smoothed, right?
Or, do I buy an aftermarket piece like the fiberglass one that Vertex Auto sells?
Thanks for any input on the issue.

I'd go with the aftermarket. You save substantial money and get to switch back when you realize black is a better complement. Also, you have that non-skid surface for tailgating, without worrying about scratches. G

i'm having mine done with a current repaint. their is a process to prep the textured wing prior to painting, and i handed it off to the painter (i think he ignored it, painters preference (they know best)). i saw the painted wing on my last visit 2 weeks ago, and surprisingly enough, the textured look w/ however many coats of clear he used looked fantastic, even mesmerizing. i say go for it!
Oh yea, looks like I’ll be shopping for some beer coasters for the wing…..

i agree, just go aftermarket. I think they are 250 ish.
I LOVE the color matched wing. If i didnt own a black car i would have got one ASAP. The black wing on red or white cars i think looks very old. So 80's. With the aftermarket one, you get the look and keep yours for resale time. or if you love the aftermarket one, sell the original to recoup 75-100% of your investment in the new one.

A color-matched wing is a nice way to update the 80's look of the black wing.
I'd be surprised if you ever decided to go back after installing the color-match version.

****? I'm in!
Thanks for all of the replies, guys. I'm not in the market for my car at the moment, however. I'm on the job for Bigmac's linen grey metallic ride.
So, the Vertex wing is the one to get?

Chaad are you going to be at the meeting this week? I could help you with the paint work or prep what ever you need. If you wanted gloss Black I think I may have some left over from my car. Let me know it you want some help.

Just a side note.
I think the factory wing, painted w/o any sanding looks pretty damn good. Just make sure there is flex agent in the paint and properly prep the surface.
