Wheel modification ideas; What'cha got?
Now, I don't want to hear anything about turbo twists, or aftermarket stuff. I have to stick with the D-90 due to the RDK system. That's a decision not a discussion. So, I'm trying to come up with ideas for something nice to do with the D-90 wheel. The exterior is Guards red, painted wing, with red and gold accents in the engine bay, and tak/chocolate interior.
I'll prolly paint the calipers red too, but with the D-90 wheel they don't show that much. Let me know what you think? Painted silver is pretty ho-hum, so I'd like something a bit different.
Edited; changed PSD to RDK.

Three Wheelin'
Hi Doc; Just curious; WHY do you have to stick with the D90's because of the PSD? Although my PSD does'nt currently work (actually my 928 does not even run right now) I've had turbo twists for several years and manyof us post-'90
owners have different wheels for a long time. Do you know something we dont or is there an issue that we should know? Please splain! Thanks.

Doc-
How 'bout the painted center D90's that Tom has on the Hollywood GT? All-Guards Red might be a bit too much, tho. Have any wheel companies figured out how BMW got the dark chrome-look on the E39M5 rims? I love that color, might be a good contrast on a red car (if it can be replicated....)
If ya gotta have RDK's (you meant RDK, not PSD, right?), you could take a nice European vacation and find a set of CS rims with the RDK sensors. Or if you want more modern rubber, find a set of 1993/early /94 17" CupI's. Then you'll need the GTS-spec RDK sensor brackets at each corner.... I know, not for discussion.

Race Car
Hey, I know where you can get a set of 17" 1993 GTS cup 1 wheels with RDK. My friend has a set sitting in his garage. Tires are good accept one front has some inside tire wear. Let me know I can put you in touch with him.

Not too many workable options for guards red. Silver works best! Yeah I know ho hum but it really does. However there is a way to spice up the silver, and I have been looking for some Hyper Silver like what went on the 993 turbo S wheels, which makes the wheels look much nicer.

I do like the Cup I style, but would need to see them up closer first.
Thanks

Was at a bling bling tire/wheel/lifestyle? place getting tires mounted, overheard them talking about wheels built with holes for tire pressure sensor.
Not sure if you can just core through any wheel and install the RDK sensor in them.
Not sure if doing something like that will weaken the wheel.

I was thinking of some kind of multi-hue pearl glanz. I'm an engineer, not a design or fashion guru, so what ever I pick is prolly yucky. Keep the ideas coming.
I also wonder what it would cost to have the cutouts on my D90 wheels changed.

Two schemes.....
A dark grey metallic with polished or Silver lip
or
Chrome centers with black openings similar to what I have now.
I like the look of the chrome but they don't last and you'll need to consider refinishing eventually.

Paint them black or gunmetal gray with a silver lip. Check out Tom's 90GT for sale thread to see his factory colorkeyed version. With the red car, I'd say no to red, but gray or black would be good.
