I know I read somewhere (and saw some pics) that the factory produce one with Projector headlamps for Dr. Porsche for his B-Day. So there must be at least two that are very similar??

Chuck Z or Roger, better contact this guy right now!!

That's is true, I remember that car. It was built in 1984? But had the S4 body and taillamps. If I remember correctly. Shows how long they'll have a design change in mind before it actually makes it to production.

I actually like the way it looks and would love to have a 4 door GT car made by Porsche. Who else makes a 4 door GT car with the 928's performance figures? There's nothing like 4 passengers, 3 lattes, and 4 smiles haulin A$$ down the highway. When I see it all I can think of is a road trip with me and 3 girls instead of just one (LOL).

I wish I owned it, for the simple reason that I could then get a license plate that says "FUGLY".

Sorry, can't bring myself to like it.

See what happens when a Country Squire, and a Pacer have too much to drink!

I appreciate the significance of it but I still think it's ugly.
I hate to say it, but that rear 1/4 view really makes it look like a Pacer.
Fascinating...but ugly.

Sorry it just doesn't look ballanced.

Hold it, guys! Let's not mix up apples with oranges...

The 928 that Ferry Porsche got for his birthday was a four-Seater with extended wheelbase (23 cm) but only two doors. It was built in Weissach, painted in the Professor's favorite colors, and also used as a test bed for the 4-valve engines and a few other things.

The four-DOOR versions discussed here were NOT made by the factory. However, it is new to me that AMG was involved in this - but I will try to verify that (I know somebody who works at AMG and is involved in making prototypes and one-offs).

Hmmm... did the current owner buy it directly from ASC?

Either way, the second car pictured is a different car, different year, different color, different interior, and - most importantly - a different rear end.

The pictures shown in Mel's post come from German Auto Motor und Sport magazine, which did a photo shoot of the car at Schloß Solitude some years ago.

At the time they reported that this was a prototype made in cooperation with ASC. However, I have not been able to verify this - Ferry Porsche's personal chauffeur and company fleet manager told me last month that he never had a such car in his fleet! And I trust that he would know about it...

This mysterious car is now located at the auto museum at Schloß Langenburg (near Heilbronn, Germany). I have not seen it in person, but my brother did and took the attached picture of it.

Some day I'll go see it by myself...

Here are two more of the amethyst colored 4-door from Germany.

Source of these pictures is unknown to me.

And then there is this mystery car - US version, but too dark to be the one Mel saw in Florida. Anybody know anything about this one?

For comparison - here is Ferry Porsche's 4-seater with 2 doors (942):

If I didn't see the Porsche badge, it's not a car I would give a second look on the street. It's genuinely ugly, IMO, and loses absolutely everything that makes the 928 visually distinctive.
