I have been around here for a while now and I am seeing a change taking place here on the 928 forum. This place use to be a welcome place for all 928 inquiries, now it seems to be a hotbed of controversy.
Recently I have seen newbies trashed for asking a question that has been asked numerous times instead of given a friendly welcome and a referral to the search function. I have also seen a prominant 928 mechanic driven away by a couple/few people who can't seem to be open to others experience and idea's. Frankly this pisses me off because as a 928 owner with little mechanical experience, I would take that mechanics word over 99.9% of what any poster on this list had to say. Now thanks to a few, he posts here very little if at all because he gets tired of all the shi_ thrown around here. When someone has 30 + years of experience actually building and working on high dollar street and race cars, they should be welcomed here and their opinion valued.
Seriously, are we expected to believe a part time backyard wannabe mechanic over someone with a proven track record? Get off your high horses (you know who you are) and lets get this place back to what it once was. Rant off

I think some folks need to read your post again.

I think its a step in the right direction for Greg to open the door of goodwill.
I find it somewhat confusing how others can read through what he is saying and find different meanings, but thats not the norm but it is a factor, for some.
Anyway This is still a great place to learn, and I hope that the guys with the long time experience will chime in when they can.
I think that when its all said and done we are all proud of our machines and how each and every car has a touch of our talents riding along.
I figure it this way if you own/drive a car like a 928 then you gotta be pretty talented and knowledgable, and have skills that most others dont, this isnt a dealer car its an owners car, Keep em flying! Stan

after finally reading this entire thread completely, I will offer this comment and then go back to my paint removal project:
picking at each other does nothing for the group or the technical nature of the discussion.
pointing out one's faults falls in line with the above.
members are not the forum police.
if you don't like something (regardless of what put a bug up your ***), don't write it here unless you are asked for comment by the originator of the thread.
if you have a question about something, it's much nicer to ask about it, instead saying,"WTF, that really sucks", or "I can't imagine why he did that."
when you bash someone for being off topic, maybe you should go back a read the whole thread in it's complete order to see why it got off topic, and who got it that direction.
we have all presented experiences in one form or another that have been subject to debate. how you debate those is key to the discussion. it's easy to say, "You don't know anything about what you're talking about", but it's a better man/woman that can peacefully debate any subject.
we are all guilty of this, including myself. try to work at this smarter, not for the sake of "I'll show him......"
