Default The Official Cabin/Pollen Filter Thread

Well, not really, but since everything else seems to be the official thread, thought I'd start my own!

The other week I was browsing through some old posts and saw one about Pollen Filters and how Rog here in the DFW group wanted to start upgrading some of the 93 GTSs to the 94-95 Pollen filter design, and it got me to start thinking about how clogged my own 14 year pollen filter might be.

So, I told Roger to bring me one to the get together the other week, got it home and pulled the old one out. Pretty straight forward. When I did get the old one out, it was a MESS! I pretty much figured it would be pretty nasty, in fact I though it would probably be worse than it was. I compared it to the new one and the pics speak for themselves. I also took a trip to Home Depot and got some smaller shop vac tubes (for cleaning interior vents, etc) along with 1/4 inch shopvac tubing and adapter so I could vacuum out the area the filter came out of. Pretty much got all the junk out of there I could before replacing the new filter. I also vacuumed 14 years worth of leave from out and around near the resistor pack and wiper motor. It's amazing how much crap can get in there for a car that sat in the garage all it's life!!

Anyhoo, I took a few pics of where the filter sits and the old and new shots. If you have a 94-95, do yourself a favor and CHANGE THE FILTER!
It's relatively cheap and way easy to do!!

what does it take to throw one of those into a pre 94 car?

what does the filter cost. Last time i bought one i paid like $30 for a BMW but it was smaller then that appears to be so i imagine that ones a bit more. If its less then $60 i would consider it. Assuming of course you can drop it into an earlier car.

nice thread, that old one is fricking nasty!

Ryan,

Talk to Roger Tyson at 928s R us. He's got it figgured out, don't think it's a quick install as you've got to change the heaterbox, etc. Filter is not bad at $35 bucks plus or minus. Not sure, haven't seen the bill yet from Roger.

Thank you, Chuck, or having the courage to bring this neglected subject out into the open.

I thought I was the only one that had these thoughts!

I can feel the healing beginning already.

Yuu know Randy, it really is a 12 step process, but it can be done.

The first part is admitting that your filter is a mess, the rest is easy.
The healing has begun brutha!!

Default Chuck I did the same

I also washed down the evaporator coil with foam cleaner from the AC supply (some of the fine stuff goes through the coils and plugs the drain (ask me how I know) house and replaced the seal om my recirculating flapper. I cut the box with a dremmel and returned the cut out section after I was done, sealed with JB weld. I've more detailed pics for you if needed.

Is it possible to Dremmel out the top of the heaterbox on a 1984 and provide access for a pollen filter and easy cleaning of the evaporator?
