Talking a spirited drive

Its just after midnight here and I just got back from a little drive. Don't know why, just got a bug up my aspen. So, I took my '8 for a drive up Lookout Mountain Road. Anyone who lives around the Denver area is probably familiar with this road. Its quite curvy. Well, my impression of a spirited drive on this road is..

HOLLLLY SH*T!

This was the first REAL drive I've taken. I think I am suffering from concussions on both the left and right side of my brain! Also, the next time I want to do something like this I'm going to have to get some barf bags. I don't get car sick, but the quick turns and lateral G's almost got me! I don't know how fast I was going, but I was going fast enough to not want to take my eyes off of the road.

I've never had a car (or even been in one) that handled as well as a 928. I've read you all talking about it, but until tonight I had NO idea. WOOHOO Thanks all.

Cool

DART you need to make more posts here!

-I bought my 928 S2 in May 1999. I had sex in it the first night I had it. And not with a lover that I'd known prior to that night- this was a first for me...for many reasons!

What a way to start 928 ownership-

But my most memorable moment was a week later; My friend Roy showed up in Orlando from Akron and we decided to do a few of Orange Avenue's clubs to see if we could uhm, you know..... like get laid.

Well, the scene was pretty lame, from a str8 point of view so we left at 0200. On the way home, I passed one of Orlando's "pop up" developments-

Roy was drunk as hell; I was like:

"Roy, hold on.....I'm going to DO a subdivision!"

-Roy instinctively grabbed the side handle. Me and Roy were study partners at Embry Riddle, and he was used to my automotive proclivities from day one...in fact we used to race our cars ['85 Scirocco 5 speed and his '86 Mercury XR7 turbo auto]around Pelican Bay in Daytona. In fact, we were drunk one night and during an epic battle of equals, I blew my muffler wide friggin open. M&D who were paying the bills were curious about the new Monza muffler on the Scirocco....

Well anyway, I stomped the brake and turned into the street. I hammered it hard to the first turn, grabbed the brakes hard, squealed around a corner at 45 degrees, caught the car and hammered it straight. This place had a long, long curve to the entrance, so I hit 15 mph in a subdivision [yes indeedy deed I was a bit sober...]and slammed the brakes, taking a right turn, a few hundred meters of straight, a left......and then a right back onto the main road. I mean, I turned the wheel with abandon, and the straights were about 1/4 mile or so....at the most!

Roy was breathless....when we turned right on Hoffner and I settled down into a normal 40 mph cruise....he was like "Damn! Holy shlt!" He was freakin- he's like "Dude, this car is THE MAN! I need one of these!

Well, Roy purchased Kim first. He has yet to disgorge himself of the Corrado he bought [because he liked mine so much], not that the Corrado is a slouch,- in fact I had one and it is smaller, tighter, and more "tossable" than any 928-

Fellow Corrado owner here! Funny 928s and Corrado are repeated in the same post. I setup a drive this afternoon. Quite long. an hour of driving on the freeway with some traffic here and there and then the fun begins after that. Well, me being the ignorant Corrado owner who doesnt't know anyting about Porsche's thought ehhh this 928s here has a v8 engine so It weighs almost as much as the Supra (btw there was a tt Supra on the drive as well) so that means it cant handle very well. I knew it would smoke my car (I have a g60), but i doubted that it could hang with a Corrado VR6 (with a $5k EIP turbo kit along with MANY other goodies.). I was wrong! That thing took the turns soooooo smoothly... I gotta get me a Porsche. Lady's love it. Hell, even my funny looking cousin with his Boxster S gets laid. aaarrrggggghhhh If i wasn't so set on buying a 93+ Mr2 Turbo, I know a 944 t would be in the driveway. Anyways, thats the end of my rant. Also, if you want to find some really good roads in your area, search for motorcylcle web pages. Those guys find the greatest roads!

Yeah I had a "type 50"!- '92 SLC

Mine was "dark burgundy pearl" with a grey velour interior. The VR6 up front had the Autotech chip and exhaust, and a K&N that I had mounted down in the front right bumper in order to get cold air. I took it to Gainesville once and ran it on the strip- it turned a 14.9 @ 93.25, and used to absolutely terrorize Hondas and the occasional 5.0 on the roads around Orlando. It could also swallow a full sized futon, and got 30 miles per gallon on the highway.

It bored me in the end; I bought a shark.

-I can tinker with the 928, and my 5 speed S2 is WAY faster than the Corrado- in fact, you can debate this till hell freezes over, but even the EIP turbo-kitted VR6's really cannot hang with me in traffic. I just have too much instant power and perfect handling for them to really be able to keep up. On an open highway it might be a good race, but not in real life! That and everyone I know who did that EIP thing had TONS of problems! That kit is crude and that company is not known for their customer service-

MR2's are neat looking. But I challenge you to find one that hasn't been blown up at least twice-they are notorious at the drag strips for burning pistons. That and people get killed in them when they plow through a guard-rail and go down into a ravine....rear bumper first. Stick to Porsche's-specifically 928's that have no bad manners and can be driven hard all day long without worry.

I really hope you guys don't drive drunk. That is just stupid, as is 115 in a residential area. Grow up.

I agree. I had NOT been drinking when I took my little trip. Refering to my signature - Taking a fast drive on a windy mountain road is probably border line. But drinking and driving, that's just plain stupid. Alcohol is unforgiving, and so can be a 928.

BTW - If you get a penny for your thoughts and put in your two cents worth, what happens to the other penny? Just asking.

Just happened to be skimming the other sections here on rennlist (I'm a 944 turbo owner) and happened on Normy's post about 115 in a residential while drunk.

Normy, I've never posted something negative about another person here but here's my first.

You are a ****ing idiot. You think that's fun? 115 in a residential? That's just what we need is someone in a Porsche showing the world how responsible we are. Pray to God I never catch you in my neighborhood you moron.

Normy,

Sit back and relax! You’re going to get flamed on this one and you have only yourself to blame. Remember, I don’t personally know you so I can’t judge YOU but I can judge what you’ve chosen to post, which reflects character.

Gee...nice quote though..."That and people get killed in them when they plow through a guard-rail and go down into a ravine....rear bumper first. Stick to Porsche's-specifically 928's that have no bad manners and can be driven hard all day long without worry."

...gotta say...sounds like you are want to tear em up?

Dart68,
Thanks for your agreement on drinking and driving. I’m guessing from Normy’s childish behavior and mentality he has never seen a dead - drunk driver or victim of one…not to mention the possibility of nailing a kid who just may be out playing late in a street which I’m sure many of the mom’s & dad’s on this board can all relate to.

Normy…
“NO” before you ask, I’m not a COP like the great ED who frequents the post’s but I am a 20 veteran news photographer and I have been around the block, complete family’s gone in a heart beat, victims of a drunk driver including kids who probably had know idea of what hit them but who did have their whole life’s in front of them only to be taken away because of attitudes like yours. No, I’m not perfect by any means as I had a DWI when I was 21…(again, I’m guessing close to your age?) but I learned my lesson early and realized I wasn’t the only one on the road and that my actions could actually effect those of others around me for life if not taking their life.

A Porsche is not about how fast you can go through a residential area or how drunk you can get and still pass the other guy in the corner, it’s about the smile on your face that shark gives you in the morning or any other Prof. Ferdinand ride produced that you may be sporting in the garage. So enjoy you shark for what it is and not what you think you are…class! Work on it a bit…all is not lost! Hell, you own a shark!

Angry

Let's bag the "PC" please-

I don't drink and drive. Things that I did when I was young and stupid are...well stupid.

NOW- those of you that felt the urge to complain had better not throw any stones if you live in glass houses. Today, you need to commit yourself to:

1. Not exceeding any speed limits. Not even by one mph.

2. Coming to full and complete stops at all stop signs.

3. Not driving within 8 hours after even the smallest sip of wine or beer.

When you do these things and things like them, then you may complain; Otherwise, I suppose if you don't like what I have to say then DON'T READ MY POSTS!

Enjoy your holiday....

N!

You say you don't drive drunk? What part of "I was a bit hammered" would lead us to believe you were sober.

You also posted:

"NOW- those of you that felt the urge to complain had better not throw any stones if you live in glass houses. Today, you need to commit yourself to:

Exceeding the speed limit WITHIN REASON is something everyone does occasionally. There is a difference, a HUGE difference, between doing 65 in 55mph zone and doing 115 in a residential (which couldn't have a limit of over 25mph). If I get pulled over doing 10 above the posted limit, the cop is going to give me a warning or a 70 dollar ticket. Get pulled over doing 115 while drunk in a residential, go to jail (and maybe get smacked around by a cop with kids and who has a low opinion of those who don't give a **** about others).

Stoping at a stop sign. Again, plenty of people come to "rolling stops" when safe and prudent. Full stops when necessary.

Not driving after a drink. Well, I don't drink at all so I guess I pass that one. That doesn't mean I have a problem with drinking. Only with those who are "hammered" driving the way you described.

Also, don't you give a **** about your Porsche? I, for one, love to drive mine but would never risk wrapping it around a pole. You want to drive fast? Go to the track.

Normy, I have no idea who you are or what you're like but I don't need to. It's one thing to do stupid things (we all have at some point). It's another to come here and brag about them and then get offended when others find your behavior repulsive.

By the way, there is a difference between being "PC" and having sense. Come here and tell a sexist joke...well that's not "PC" but it's your right to express yourself. It is not your right to endanger others. Nothing to do with "PC".

To be fair, you don't know me either, but trust me I'm not what you think. I'm younger than you would guess. I compete in bodybuilding at 220 pounds at 5'8'' tall. I drive a Porsche. I go out. I'm not some old guy griping about you young kids.

You say if we don't like your posts don't read them? Well if you don't like mine...don't read it.

To those of you who are reading this as well, I apologize for the long post but had to get this off my chest.

Back to posting about my DME relay problems and search for a good set of tires!

Reminds me of a joke.

Guy rolls through a stop sign. Cop pulls him over and informs him that he did not come to a complete stop at the sign.

Driver says "well, I slowed down real good, that's practicly the same as stopping."

Cop takes his flashlight and starts beating the motorist in the head. Cops says "now, sir, would you like me to slow down, or would you like me to stop!"
