What a nice day for a drive in the country
Yup! It's a gorgeous out here in North East San Diego County today. The suns a shinin' the Birdies are a chirpin' and the bees are a buzzin'. So what do I do? Why what else - take the shark out for a spin on some of the back roads and scare the crap out of some wild life.
Well the formal excuse is that I wanted to familiarize myself better with the roads around where I’m looking to purchase a home near Ramona.
So I jumped in the Shark (after a little preflight) and hit the back roads. Started out here in Poway and took the 67 up towards Ramona. A short jog across some empty roads with farm animals on either side, then San Vicente Rd to Wildcat Canyon Rd past the Barona Casino and dropped down into Lakeside.
Enjoyed the drive so much – that rather than hop back on the 67 north towards Poway. I turned around and reversed directions.

You know it's like rubbing salt into the weather wounds of those stuck in cold sucky rain/sleet/snow parts of the country, right?
I'm leaving the 75 degree soCal "winter" days here for a bit, and trading them for some NJ cold for a bit. Light a fire back there, I'm there next week.

Hi,
well it's the reverse here. Our Autumn in the Tropics is a welcome relief from high temperatures, "almost cyclones" high winds, 40 wrecked anchored boats (one km from here) and devasting rains that produced 5 inches per hour for four hours close to here where I live near the Great Barrier Reef
Roll on the Tropical winter so I can take the hardtop off the Boxster! I do miss my 928!!!!!

Hi,
Jim - Thanks, I wondered if I was still welcome to be a contributer on this Forum
The Boxster is a good car but I miss the power and "carisma" of the 928. Many people have since remarked "you sold your Porsche for "that""? But I use it a lot!
Sadly I had to assist in the repair here on one of the two 928s left in this area. The 16V motor had a failed TB tensioner - caused by a previous repairer's incompetence - but the engine did not sustain head or piston damage thankfully. We were just about to e-mail you for a secondhand replacement!

Hi,
Jim - I wanted to buy a new Cayman but they only "load" them here to about $30k over list price - it was not a purchase then. I tried a new Audi A5 V6 Coupe as well - a nice well finshed and executed car too but the auto/throttle "mix" was an issue - so I'll live with the present fleet for a while
The TB tensioner collapsed (maybe caused by trying to push start the manual car in reverse) and the TB jumped the cogs. We expect that the motor was later turned over again during the "can't start it process" using a starter pack. Recovered the car from the "other" repairer and proceeded from there. The moral as an owner IMHO - always keep an eye on those that call themselves "experts"!
As you well know the basics always apply in the automotive world - unmoved by time and technologies - common sense being but one of them!!!
Bret928 - I'm quite envious - enjoy!!

Nice rout choice...
I know that route choice..,
Two years ago I worked right at the end of scripps poway parkway, just before it heads towards Ramona. I used to take my E420 Benz for lunch and drive into Ramona, then take some back roads to see how much I could push my four door sedan. They have some nice homes out there, with large lots.
Are you going to build an ultimate garage when you buy a home out there....?
Let's see a picture of your car...,

found your site..
Found your site Bret,
Your care is impressive. I like the exhaust and larger wheels. I assume those are 18's, man they really make the car. Once I sort out my trans. 4th gear problem I'll probably upgrade to newer wheels myself.

Hey Al,
Thanks for the kind words.
As for my garage? Well yes I’ve got pretty much have everything I need for the basic stuff. Air & tools are a must have for any garage IMHO.
Like you – I too have some plans for my 78 – once I move in, I'm going to invite a bunch of our fellow 928'ers over (food & beer will be provided) and we're going to tear her down in preparation for paint.
While the shark is in for paint - I've got an old MGB that I need to finish a few projects off and the extra room with the Porsche out'a the way will help me out a great deal.
Also - Yup those would be 18's 5 spoke ultralites. Much better than the rusty old set of Gotti 3-piece wheels they replaced. You’re also correct in that they really update the car and it really surprises folks when I tell’em it’s a 78’.
