Default can oil fill tube be replaced without removing intake?

I saw a picture of the water manifold removed from an engine and it looks like the oil fill tube could be removed and serviced/replaced while that manifold is off.
Is this just wishful thinking on my part?

If the water manifold is off, then you should be able to get the oil filler off too. Just two bolts.

I have removed the oil filler on my 1990 S4, as Andrew has described. This has allowed me to get under the inlet manifold to check the knock sensor and the front breather pipes.

Yes, it can be done without removing the intake. There is a writeup with pictures on removing the thermostat housing and oil filler tube in the DIY 928 section....
