hi all,

I got a 928 84 few weeks ago. Before I bought it the we started the car by pouring some gasoline in the manifold and let it run for 5 minutes.

After towing the car I bypasses the fuel relay but the fuel pump was not working so I took the Fuel Pump relay to Autozone and they told it was good.

I got a new fuel pump, strainer etc. Hook everything but the fuel pump does not draw any power when I try to start the engine, zero volt. So we bypassed it directly from the battery and vrooommmm for 3 seconds but the engine died. Then nothing. Only when we release some pressure in the fuel line the engine does like it wants to start.

There are some a sensor that has been cut, its under the air filter housing. Also some vaccuum hoses are gone. Could it be the Cold Start Valve? Computer? There is no thicking noise in the injectors at all.

But there is fuel pressure, does like it want to start with the first crank but then only by releasing some pressure it does like it wants to start again.

Help please, any comment will be greatly appreciated :-))

Look on the metal fuel lines and find the fuel pressure regulator and the fuel pressure dampeners. There will be a rubber vacuum line running from each of these units to the intake manifold. Pull the rubber line from each of the units, and carefully check for fuel inside the rubber line. If there is any trace of fuel in the line, that unit is bad and must be replaced.

If the fuel pressure regulator is bad, or the line that allows excess fuel to flow back to the tank is plugged, the fuel pressure will be too high, and the engine will not run.

Hello Wally.

So you think a faulty fuel pressure regulator might be the reason the fuel pump is not kicking in?
I will check tomorrow to see if the regulator(s) might be bad.
Thanks,
Gio

Thanks Wally,

I check the fuel pressure regulators and there was no trace of gasoline in the vacuum lines connected in the back of them.

In the fuse/relay box there's a jumper on one of the wires that seems to be a ground but its loosen. Its jumped to a black wire in the wire harness under the fuel pump relay.

There's also some vacuum lines missing under the air filter box. Could this be a reason for the engine not to start?

I cleaned all the grounds (in the manuals) also I bypasses the fuel pump relay and the fuel pump works. The cars does like it want to start.

I will take the fuel rail out and put a piece of cloth under the injectors to see if they all stray. Also I need to check for sparks and check for compression.

Any other recommendation?

Thank you,
Giovanni.

Giovanni, I did remember one other thing after our phone call. I sent my computer (the one near the foot well on the passanger side) to Dave Roberts to have him put it in another car to see if it was good or bad. Call him 1-828-766-9280 and work something out. I re-read your posts and I think that the vacuum lines could be an issue.

Hey Chucker,
The place that cleaned your injectors, did they put a new hose on your injectors?

Giovanni, Yes Rich put new hoses on the injectors. He quoted me 10.00 per injector until I told him it was a 928 then he told me it was 15.00 per injector because he had to put the hoses on them. Look in the post under my name for the web site and phone number. I do remember that he is in Big Rapids Michigan. And tell him that I told you to call him. I don't know if that will get you anywhere but it's always good to network. I think that the total was 133.00
