Default $4995 S4 auto for sale

This car is black, and its on its 2nd engine. All I know for now, except that the guy has had this car or an identical one for a while and doesn't know anything about 928s. He lives pretty close to me near Shoreline if anyone wants me to check it out.
Call me at 425-280-8598 if you're serious.

See the craigslist ad.

But, lets see how low we can get him on price

I wonder if this is the same car that was for sale last year at $6k? If it is then it has engine oil in the cooling system if I remember correctly.

This 86 5 speed might be a better buy for the money,

She is firm at $5k though....

Default Some homework done

I called - It's a 1987 S4 auto 164k on speedo - engine was installed at 112k. Seats don't work, windows don't work already. Probably switches which is normal - I didn't say that though
steering going - rack leaks
TB needs doing - wp too. He said the last time was 35k ago, but I'd bet more like when the engine went in.
" It's like 21 years old - eh - and you need to know these cars eh - and I'm not telling anyone - eh - but I'd take $4,000 cash - eh.

You guys are lucky I don't live up there or it WOULD be the newest in the cave!!!!!!!!!!!
Someone go look at this quick!

And drive it away - it needs to be saved EH

So what is with the "eh" is it a question?, a statement?, or just a northern requirement of speech........ eh

Looks like a candidate for an ee-electric conversion...

+1 On the saving, but not by me.

Northern English linguistics lesson:

It's "eh", not aye.

The following was lifted entirely from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eh#Canada
_____________________________________
The only usage of eh? that is exclusive to Canada, according to the Canadian Oxford Dictionary, is for "ascertaining the comprehension, continued interest, agreement, etc., of the person or persons addressed" as in, "It's four kilometres away, eh, so I have to go by bike." In that case, eh? is used to confirm the attention of the listener and to invite a supportive noise such as "Mm" or "Oh" or "Okay". It essentially is an interjection meaning, "I'm checking to see you're listening so I can continue."

"Eh" can also be added to the end of a declarative sentence to turn it into a question. For example: "The weather is nice." becomes "The weather is nice, eh?" This same phrase could also be taken as "The weather is nice, don't you agree?".

Depending on the speaker's tone or the dialectal standard, eh can also be perceived as rude or impolite, as "Repeat that!", and not a request.

Further examples of Canadian usage include: "I know, eh?" (Agreement), "Yeah, eh?" (Agreement; tone of voice changes meaning slightly). "I know. Eh!" (Pause between 'know' and 'eh' and emphasise 'eh'. This is an excited agreement.) Although technically questions, these are also said as statements.
_____________________________________

They also mention briefly it's usage in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, where it is in fact quite epidemic.

Just looked at it...

Yikes.

Its the same car I looked at before.
Burgundy interior with that funky high arm rest thing. Door panel on the pass. side has the center piece taken out of it, looks like someone was attempting to fix something. The sunroof motor cover (as I recall) was partially off, and the hatch trim is a little warped at the top.
Pod is cracked, driver's bolsters are torn on both sides somehow... And he fashions the Club as his theft-protection of choice.

Wanna know something amazing? I show up (unannounced) at his house at 7:45pm and his wife goes to get him, and comes back saying that maybe I can come back on the weekend when he has work off as he's too tired... Motivated seller? Idiot? I don't know...

He is not afraid to use duct tape on the paint either. From the marks on the paint, looks like he had a tarp or something taped down for a while. Paint has chunks and chips missing here and there, and really would need a repaint unless its a track car. Minor bumper damage up front with the lower section under the marker light sticking out a little by the wheel well.
Looked under the car and the oil pan is filthy and its pretty oily down there. I rocked the front wheels back and forth and they seemed ok to me...

Now, did the 87s come with 2 piston calipers in the rear? This is not an early '87 either, I checked the vin.
Also, the rear left wheel's offset is different than the rear right's wheel, but they both look like 8" flats to me. Wtf? Maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me and one wheel has a 245 and the other has a 255 and is taking up extra room, I dont know, looked weird.
Oh, and 178k on the clock, not 167k or whatever.

Bottom line, I'd need to drive it to give a full yay or nay. BUT, but but but, for $3500 (if it seems to run strong) I'd still say go for it and supercharge the bejezus out of it and have some fun! Or, make it a weekend track toy with some different gearing.

I'm positive it will have all the usual electrical symptoms, and probably throw warning lights like it was Christmas. And like Mike said, I wouldn't drive it a day without doing the tb/wp job just to make sure. We still don't know who replaced the engine and how messed up that could have been. I'd guess it was a used engine that was just swapped and not a bit of maintenance was done.

And, PS. If someone wants the car, send or wire me the money and I'll buy it remotely for any 'lister not in the area.
Ask around, I can be trusted. Someone on here had me buy a '74 convertible bug for them too.

Additionaly, if you want any work done before you get it, we can work that out as well as I do have space to fix the car and live very close to this one.

Called the guy around 9:30. He said there was a tarp on it for sometime and used duct tape to hold it down for bad weather lol. I was very interested till he stated the current paint job was Maaco special... Also, the T-belt is 10k miles over recommened limit.

That 86 5sp on Ebay is my old ride. If you're interested in the details on that car up to the point I sold it, let me know.

That S4 has track car written all over it. Buy it for $3k tops because it will require $10k in work to get it right and still won't be pretty. Strip it down, pull the engine and get everything done, install new shocks/springs and brakes, put in a cage and go have fun. Or buy one of the proven track cars for sale for the same money. The 86 looks a bit rough too (no offense Brian) for the 5k asking price, and the wheels are interesting. No wonder it topped out less than 3k.

Actually I'd go find an early car for basically free and strip it to the shell for a cage and paint. Then install the drivetrain/brakes from the S4 and go nuts. That would be 10k-ish for a 2700lb track beast.

Yeah, FWIW

I sold this car about 5 years ago. Had new:

TB/WP at about 120K
New Boge shocks all around at about 125K
New motor mounts
Autothority chips
Cat bypass pipes
S4 wheels- don't know how they got them mounted incorrectly
Dash from the Holbert car with minimal cracks, pod had no cracks

Engine was replaced at about 107K (along with the clutch) with a 70K mile motor- this was before I purchased it. This car ran extremely well & was very fast- always started & idled perfectly. Sounded great with the H-pipe

Body was just ok- straight, but the silver paint had some blemishes
Interior was just ok also, everything worked but the A/C- Shifter was shortened

I wasn't really in the market for another 928 at the time, but I ran across the 1990 38K GT for $19,000 & couldn't resist. I ended up selling the silver 928 for $6k
