Jim,

Thanks for the tip, unfortunately my friends were too late to act. Can you repost the original information for future reference? (the news of those coupons was news to me and may prove useful in the future)

Thanks

Ted,
<a href="http://www.bensbargains.net/" target="_blank">http://www.bensbargains.net/</a>
<a href="http://www.slickdeals.net/" target="_blank">http://www.slickdeals.net/</a>
<a href="http://www.techbargains.com/" target="_blank">http://www.techbargains.com/</a>

Check these sites a couple of times a day. The best deals last less than a day; however, most deals last 2 or 3 days.

Dell has beem having at least one good buy every 3 or 4 weeks for the past 5 months or so. I predict they will offer a nice buy just before Easter.

I used to be the operations manager for security at Dell, Try near the end of quarter, if they haven't made numbers they offer better deals. Thats if you are looking for a cheap computer if you are looking for a quality computer buy an apple, I've converted.

FMR SPY,
After Thanksgiving and the end of the quarter have been excellent times to order a system.

I got $610 back on one system on Nov. 28th last year. I should have got $710 back, but they found an excuse to deny one of the $100 rebates.

Thanks for the tip! After four years of drinking coffee near my Hal 2000...he finally got a big sip of my coffee the other day and now has sticky keys <img border="0" alt="[ouch]" title="" src="graemlins/c.gif" /> ...must be time to upgrade to a faster machine anyway...present machine is a Dell so this looks interesting.

Now I'll be able to cruz Rennlist with lighting speed! <img border="0" alt="[burnout]" title="" src="graemlins/burnout.gif" />

Yep, know what you mean Tim. My machine is a 550Mhz that is near 4 yrs old and my son keeps asking me how I can even use this 'dinosaur'. Actually I've found that it's fine for most of the stuff I do on the net and any word/xcel stuff. I did upgrade the hard drive. It might be nice to have a better video card for the occaisional game but NFS Porsche Unleashed probably won't run any better on XP w a new video card than it does on my current xp machine...still might do it though at these prices.

You can probably get away with upgrading your CPU/motherboard/RAM combo and get off a lot cheaper. Dell uses generally universal parts, so the only thing you have to ensure is that the backpanel where the keyboard and such connect matches the new motherboard or can come out. Another thing to look at is if the power supply can provide enough watts. (300W minimum.)

If you can tear apart your shark, swapping these parts out should be easy.

Dell uses a special plug on their power supply that will not connect to a standard mother board.

Really? I haven't noticed that before when upgrading other people's systems. They are probably using low power PSUs (200W-250W) that would need an upgrade anyhow. Most OEMs do because they can cut costs that way.

The Dell deal is back.

<a href="http://www.techbargains.com/" target="_blank">http://www.techbargains.com/</a>

I would suggest you look at upgrading since you get a 5% discount.

The 9700TX vid card is nice at the upgrade price.

Get the Pent 2.66 for $20 extra.

Also, those that want a DVD burner, the price looks awesome.

Just so you know it will be a slug with 128ram There ram prices are high so I would get a 512mb elsewhere.

How do I know you ask, well the thanks go to Jimbo I jumped on it the first time.
