I am hoping that someone that can help me locate a decent Powder Coater, and powder coating material I can use at the house. I will have a stove dedicated to this, and will have a blasting cabinet to clean up parts prior to coating.
I appreciate any info someone can share as to what brand, where available, etc...
The Chicago gun they offer is also available from Harbor Freight. They often have it on sale for about $60.00
Also <a href="http://www.hotcoat.com/cgi-bin/sgdynamo.exe?HTNAME=home.htm&UID=2003021211155858&FNM=15" target="_blank">Hot Coat</a> has a lot of stuff, but their guns are much more.
It's all a function of money. If you can afford it, or you are doing a lot of coatings, I'd go for the more expensive gun. If you're like me, you'll go for the least expensive alternative that will do the job.
Call the guys at Columbia and talk to them about your concerns.
John;
If you are serious about setting up to powder coat, get the prices together and I will split the cost with you. Maybe that means we can buy a better gun, bigger oven etc. Let me know.
Good to see ya Jack. Thanks for the help at Shawn's. My delimena now is, Like you said size of oven...
Any thoughts on this area would be appreciated. I know the larger area, the more parts that can be cured at one time, making the whole process a little less costly. <img border="0" alt="[oops]" title="" src="graemlins/oops.gif" />
Jack,
Could you send to my email a pic of your car, mostly the rear spoiler...
Doz,
I'll try and post the pic later on tonight.Seriously, lets check it out and see what is available oven wise. Maybe something big enough to powder coat Shawn's tranny? HA,HA.
Check around at local restaurants and bakeries that might be upgrading or going out of business.
Most will have commercial size ovens. That is what I have here for heating Pedestal bearings and gears for installation. This thing is big enough to fit the block out of a 928. Like to take it home when I leave. Only downside to it is that it runs on 480v.
I don't have any experiecne with them, but there are stand alone propane infrared heaters for curing. I think you also need a reflective type thermometer with that arrangement.
Shawn;
I think John and I are designing an oven big enough to put your sHARk into and powder coat the whole thing if you want.No worries on the sockets and tape.Whenever we find time.
