...modifies it to a single-plate clutch?
I want to just open a box and find EVERYTHING I need to do a seamless conversion.
What can I expect to pay for such a package?

EDIT: Or is it even possible to convert? I read something on the web that said it was possible/desirable, but I cannot now find it. What say ye?

There is really little if any benefit to fitting a single disc clutch and it requires many very expensive parts such as bellhousings (larger diameter) ,flywheel again larger and heavier, then all the clutch bits as well . The twin disc clutch is stronger allows the engine to rev faster (less mass , smaller diameter). The twin disc when adjusted properly works very well. Some Porsche dealers did enjoy "updating" the clutch it was a big profitable job . I would not recommend it .

Yup, you said the key word "when adjusted properly". I have had MANY 928s, all have had shattering sounds from the double clutch. And if you do adjust it properly, as soon as you give it a beating....... time to adjust again. Most poeple want to do the labor one time and forget about it!! This is impossible with the double disc clutch. This is why Porsche changed to the single. If you have the extra money to keep re-adjusting...go for it. But the labor on our 928s is very expensive. Do the math....
P.S.
Try to get the parts used, it will be MUCH cheaper.

Weissach - I believe the double disc clutch has gotten a bad rap. On paper it has many advantages (lightweight, greater clamping force compared to the single disc setup) yet many people say it is a high maintenance item needing continual proper adjustments. I don't see it that way. I replaced my double disc with a new double disc last spring. I was seriously considering the single disc setup as an 'upgrade', but upon removing my old double disc and figuring out mechanically how it works I decided to stick with it. It is quite a slick piece of engineering. The only way the double disc would need adjusting is if the adjusters in the intermediate plate were to somehow slip or of the springs on the intermediate plate get too stiff. Theoretically it should only need adjusting once (when it is installed). I the clutch is dis-assembled simply slide the 3 adjusters fully in the direction of the throwout bearing. If the clutch is already in the car you will need a bowl of Wheaties and a pry bar to manually dis-engage the clutch and move 1 adjuster at a time.

I am now very confused.
I don't want to replace a bell housing. Ergo I won't convert the clutch. QED.
Thanks

I don't know about converting a bell housing, but just replacing one wasn't that bad at all. With the clutch out it takes about 1/2-3/4 of an hour. Of course, if I wasn't such a stupid F*^%#&$ idiot in the first place when I broke it, I never would have found that out.

the double disc clutch in the very brown 1980 class H-improved POC 2002 short track champion 928 after 22 events (two drivers 11 events)or so is just fine thank you . That is probably 30 hours of track thrashing ....clutch seems fine to me .. the home track is 1.1 miles 12 turns 2-3-4 gears very tight , MUCH shifting ... drove the car Sunday .
