I opened a new thread with a link to more information and pictures of my new leather luggage cover:

https://rennlist.com/forums/928-forum/412866-new-leather-luggage-covers-with-a-twist.html

I will respond to questions in that thread.

Thanks

Paul

My preteen daughter (who sews) made me a new cover out of leatherette for Xmas (I will post pictures), using the old hardware. It turned out quite adequate. Im sure she would be willing to make more if you could provide the hardware. It will not be nearly as nice as Paul's (not by a long shot! Paul, yours are outstanding), but they do the job better than my faded/torn cloth originals.

1. Can someone advice me on how to post the pics?
2. Im guessing my daughter will charge $30 to $50 plus materials/cost (it took her a weekend to do). According to her, sewing leather will be the same as sewing leatherette.

I maybe interested. I have some material i could send along with the parts. I am debating on wether to go vinyl or cloth. So far I cant find a heavy enough cloth material. But we will see.

Keep me posted.

I'm interested in this too ... for the 968 actually. Would like to get the existing cover re-done with fresh Sunbrella fabric for an OEM look.

Ive never heard of Sunbrella, but the more i think about it, the better it sounds. I would like to replicate the OEM look and I searched on Ebay and found it for $4.75 a yard x 60" You would need 2 yards and I am thinking about buying this stuff.

Can anyone offer an opinion on this, obviously i cant see it since it an online seller, but i didnt find anything i liked in a couple fabric stores that ive been in thus far. Nothing is heavy enough and canvas itself is just too cheap looking for me.

I am going to go look at some patio furniture to get an idea of what kind of texture this stuff has.

Here is the auction i was looking at

http://cgi.ebay.com/SUNBRELLA-MARINE...QQcmdZViewItem

Or there is some other stuff. I checked the Sunbrella website and see some stuff for awnings and some for furniture covers. I think the furniture fabric has a much nicer texture so a couple that i saw on teh website for black are #5408 (on Ebay at $14/yard) or #5471 which i dont know where to get. I am trying to find a local dealer to see some swatches but no luck so far. So far I guess i like the #5408, and will probably go with that.

Wouldn't you want a lighter material? Been looking at these and the questions that comes to my mind is if heavier material will sag later on? I'm still debating what material to choose. I'm really charmed by Pauls product, that looks like quality stuff.

nope i want to replicate the factory stuff which is heavier than anything ive yet found

Pauls leather cover probably weighs twice what a cloth one weighs, although the edging would help with keeping the shape. I need something heavy enough to block light. New elastic strings would keep tension on all the parts so it shouldn't sag if its cut correctly.
