Red face Help - Power locks

My power mirrors won't function - It appears that the power mirror systems is dead. I have power at the switch, but no action at the mirrors. While I was trying to troubleshoot this problem I unscrewed the fuse/relay panel to gain access to the rear. Now my passenger power lock won't function. The driver side functions, but will only go to the condition of the passenger door (locked or unlocked) I can manually lock the passenger door with the key and the driver's door will lock. When I manually unlock the passenger door the driver's door unlocks. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Help with the mirrors would be good to.

A wiring diagram or where to locate one would be great
Thanks

I'm new to the list. Who is Ed?

I was talking to a friend last night. He said it might be the ground. What color wire does Porsche use for the ground. The problem has to be reletively simple as the lock worked before. maybe a wiring harness is partly coroded or something similar.

I think I'm Ed, at least that's what it says on my driver's license.

Anyway, the mirrors have pin conectors located behind the glass. Over time they corrode and malfunction. Pull off the mirrors, then clean all the wire connections.

Depending on the year of the car, the door locks can be vacuum assisted or totally electric. It sounds like you either shorted a wire, or disconnected one. You'll need a wiring diagram (which you can get from a dealer if you beg properly) or find it in the electrical volume of the Service Manuals.

Without the diagram, you're just taking guesses. Considering how complicate the 928 electrical system is, I would not be guessing.

Sarge,
what year car do you have? I've got hard copy manuals thru '83 and the microfiche on cd thru '91. The wire diagrams on the cd are pretty tough to read so I'm not sure how much they'd help (at least some).

I think ground is brown and switched ground is brown and white.

It's an 88 S4.

I did find wiring diagrams at the library plus a brief explanation of the readings i should find on the wires at different lock conditions. I checked the voltages and found them to be as described. I am beginning to believe that the motor is just dead.

As far as the mirrors go, does anyone have photos of the disassembly procedure?

Thanks
