Question Throttle Body adjustment question.

84 Euro - Auto Trans.

Okay, sometimes it's better to leave well enough alone but Here goes anyway.

I was concerned with my Sharks accelleration - and I was thinking of what could be making her lag of the line. I checked the T-Belt, which I installed along with all new rollers, the brakes and the transmission. The timing is on and she idles around 900 rpm. So, the big light bulb went off - What about the TB cables.

I pulled off the TB Spider Body and found that the butterfly wasn't opening all the way. My commense sense tells me that this is incorrect. In my trials I found that there are four seperate adjustment points.

1. The Gas Pedal
2. The Upper Throttle Cable
3. The Lower Throttle Cable
4. The Throttle Cable exiting the Firewall.

One more thing, There is a third cable located between the Upper and Lower TC. I couldn't place it but I think it could be a manual choke?. BTW - My shark did have five speed prior to my purchase.

After I adjusted the cables and according to my lack of information Chilton Porsche manual, here is the outcome.

From a stand still - My shark will Rev to 2krpm - it will then flat spot for about a 1/2 second then climb the R's and after 5th - Wake up little suzy - she starts to scream. My problem is this - between 2 and 5k - I feel like I'm walking. The climb is gradual but not as quick as I feel she could be. Being and 84 Euro with 310 at the crank - she has to have more spunk. Can someone please help me straighten out the fix I fixed wrong. I can back track and relase the tension on the cables and start over, I have no problem with that.

From the school of Hard Knoxs.

Cool

Part 2 -

Sometimes things just work out. I took the car out again and it seems to be fine. Responsive all the way up -

Drewster,
I was reading Greggs post this page and realized I had not checked my cables in the last 5 or 6 months. Soooo... While checking 'pedal' cable I snugged a turn or two worked well and you can hear the plate SLAM shut. However I did notice that the Kick Down cable was awfully sloppy. I snugged the adjuster(plastic?) at the firewall but examining the forward adjuster on this cable WILL NOT take all the slack out of the cable.
As to your question, Gregg had his plate stick after adjustment and thought it might be binding due to overtightening.
If you have to readjust IMO I would loosen all till there was noticeable slack then adjust the pedal first as that would be the primary. Tighten the others one by one without messing up the primary tension -causing more slack-.

John - Thanks for the feedback. Being that I'm a learn as you go shark owner, I thought it would be best if I adjusted the cables with the Intake Housing off. My butterfly slams shut after I release pedal pressure. I can't tell you how many times I was in and out of the car. I would use a bar to depress the pedal and then inspect the butterfly to see if it how far open it was. I made sure that the cable weren't over tensioned. I guess my shark needed to settle in with the new tension.

Along with the cable tension - I decided it would be a good idea to button up the intake. Let's say that more than one adjustment was severly needed. My shark is now quieter and smoother running. If you have the time for a quick maintenance - Go through the top end and check to see if anything is loose. I.E. mounting bracket, Throttle body to Mass Air, vacum lines and so forth. For the work I did, the reward is favorable. Things that make you go HHHHMMMM! -

Drewster, try this also; disconnect and clean ALL contacts on the battery. This did 2 things, increased my voltage by 1.5 volts and reset the computer which the car seemed to like with the new linkage settings. Also, I cleaned the temp senders contacts, this became a problem after I played with the cables. Don't ask me why the battery disconnect and the temp sensor worked, I found these in other posts!?

Gregg - I will give it a try. Thanks for the info and I will let you know what happens. I went to 20th Street Auto Parts in Phoenix and picked up two new (used) half shafts. Guess what I'm doing this afternoon. Can't wait to accellerate !!!!!!!!!.

Thanks for the tips !!!!
