Post Octane loop connected?

My car suddenly started losing power, even killing on the road, so I looked up all the possibilities, such as relays and fuel pumps and such. I first went to check the relay, figuring I'd just replace it and see if the problem went away. But, lo and behold, while I was in the fuse panel fiddling with the relay to get it out, what did I notice but the low octane jumper wires for the fuel ignition brain connected. Apparently there's some debate as to which these are, but they are the only ones from my brain (the Euro, 84, with the LH jetronic). I don't know why I've never noticed these before, but I've specifically looked for them and apparently didn't see them right out in the open (I need a severe bitchslap). Unless someone connected them when I last had it in for maintenance, they've been connected since I bought it over a year and half ago. I immediately disconnected them and the car no longer stalls, but what kind of damage did it/could it have caused?

Should be no damage involved.
Thought it just changed mapping to prevent detonation when using low octane.
