Hi fellow sharkers,
As far as I know, the following are standard equipment on the later 928 models (GT or GTS), but they are missing from an S4. Is it possible to retrofit these on an S4 and how easy would it be? I really miss these as I have them on my other car.
1. Pollen filter. Helps keep the car a lot cleaner inside, there is a lot less dirt entering through the air vents. Can the GT pollen filter be directly fitted to an S4?
2. Single-touch window switches. You click on the window switch once and the window opens/closes rest of the way on its own. Very nice when you are driving into a garage where you need to show a card/badge to get in. Presumably the window switches are different from the ones used in S4 (have three positions instead of two), plus control logic is different?
Best regards,
Niklas Kampe

Those are good questions - been wondering the same myself.
The one thing that I did add to mine is extra soundproofing on the wheel well liners - made quite a difference. Oh also, the antenna, wheels, etc.

The single touch window system can be retrofited to the S4 models....but it would be expensive! The window system requires an additional Control Unit - ~$1100. The memory seats and mirrors can also be retrofitted - requires the door panel inerts and also the Control Unit - also ~$1100 from what I remember.
The pollen filter is likely a direct replacement (SWAG).

So there are no surprises - the window switches on the GTS only go all the way down automatically not up. Its not another switch position - you just have to hold the switch for >1/2 sec and it activates the auto system. Same for the sunroof (also only to open).
The window switches did change connection style but I think this was before this and not related specifically to this feature, thought this was before the 'S4 model. You'd certainly need the new controller though and that will be the big $.
The Pollen filter was only added for the 928 GTS in '94/'95 models. It required some relocation of other items and a new filter box in the airflow line. probably tricky to install as a retro, unlikely you will find any used parts too...

Thanks for the info. Does anyone know about the wiring for the window motors? Does the current to the motor pass through the window switch or does the switch control a relay which then powers the motor?
As an electronics hobbyist, I thought that I might be able to build a one-touch control myself... Just need a way to figure out when the window has fully opened so that the current can be switched off. I guess the common solution is to use a thermal relay or similar that trips when the current rises high enough (which happens when the window doesn't move anymore)?

The one-touch window feature has been discussed before, along wioth a plug-and-play solution that uses relays OEM to some Volkswagen cars. Do a site archive search here and on the e-mail list and you may find the info you need.
