Pivot rod stuck
Doing some rear-end repairs on my '87 S4. Left rear wheel bearing is fine, but if you put your ear up to the right one and turn it slowly you can hear a faint sound like bearing ***** clicking together. A little louder when turned backwards but you can't feel anything. No noise or symptoms while driving but decided to replace both bearings anyway (75K mi.) while doing other rear-end repairs (diff. drive seals, CV joints, CV boots, ATF resv.) Started to remove wheel hub carriers. Got the left pivot rod out in about 5 min. with light taps from a hammer. Right pivot rod will not budge - stuck to the shock. Soaked in penetrating oil 2 days, pushed from both ends with a gear puller, hammered from both ends, applied torsion to one end with a cheater through counterlocked nuts while banging on the other end. The rod will only move as much as the rubber shock bushing will flex. Doesn't appear bent or damaged. At this point I think I should go ahead and complete the other repairs and if it still won't loosen after a few more days soaking in penetrating oil, I will just put it back together and drive it for a week or two - maybe easier to break loose later. I'm fresh out of ideas. Not sure what to try next?? Thanks..
