Someone get the BumperPlugs guy to make a suitable, painted plug for them!

The used replacement bumper I put on my 78 5 speed did not have the holes, ever. Wondered if this was a factory delete option? BTW the plumbing is still under there but I didn't cut holes for the washers.

Tony,
In answer to your second question in your initial post #1, you need to check the set up of your starter-interlock switch in relationship to the auto select lever and the range selector on the transmission.
Remove the bowden cable from the range selector on the transmission and place it in the "N" position. Loosen back the mounting bolts of the starter-interlock switch and insert a holing pin (the shank of a 4mm twist drill) through the selector into the hole in the shift valve casing. Tighten the mounting bolts to *Nm (5.9ftlbs) and remove holding pin.
Now check setting of cables for selector lever for P, R, N, D, 3 & 2 and control pressure. The above procedure is shown in section 37 of the WSMs.
Once you have done this you should be able to start car in P & N.

I went through the trouble of pulling all the plumbing replacing it all including the check valve so it wouldn't dribble fluid on my impeckable (at that time...) black paint. They are there, tested once then blown completely clear of fluid, never to be used while I own the car. I'm sure they serve a purpose for folks who A) let their cars get dirty, and then B) drive them in the rain or at night. I'm thinking they just give the smooshed bugs a little shower anyway, with no little wiper fitted. Plus I'm not a big fan of spraying cold water on a hot headlight glass anyway.
So Iasy leave 'em if you already have 'em, but don't sweat installing them on the new cover.

Nay
The Euro doesn't have them - but the plumbing is there. I like the looks better.
And Shane - don't you shoot bugs with shotguns in Alaska

If you drive it every day or for long distances the lenses do get grimy - and at that point cleaning the rest of the car is needed anyway... Its functional - it realy works pretty well. If you want the car to work as a real daily driver - keep them - if its a garage queen maybe you will never use them...
There seems to be a lot of feature deleting going on ... not sure I get all of it - features Porsche added to the car were usually needed - well thought out and well implemented...
