Driving home the other day I was just minding my own business driving home when I pull up to a line of cars stopped at a red traffic signal. I swear I must’ve been sitting there for a good five or six seconds when I hear this screeching sound coming from behind me.
Looking up in my rearview mirror I see this old (late 70’s I think?) POS white LTD barreling down on me with all of his brakes locked up & smoking!
First thought was I’m dead! Then I realize that there’s a fairly new Mercedes Benz SUV right in front of me – then I think – Oh Crap! This a$$hat in the LTD is going to smash into me & total my Porsche – then I’m going to be pushed into this M-Class and be raked over hot burning coals.
Well in the hopes to lessen the impact I eased off the brakes – figuring I’d reapply them when I got hit. But just as I closed my eyes thinking I was done for – the LTD came to a stop and a huge cloud of brake dust engulfed my car & blew by me.
I open one of my eyes and peer into the rearview mirror and see this a$$hat waving apologetically as if to say “sorry”. Well I knew the light was slow so I got out quickly to have a look and I swear the guy missed hitting me by a “Coat of Paint”!
I looked at the guy and he was still trying to apologize – but I just shook my head disapprovingly & gave him a disgusted look and walked back to my car.
God I was pissed & the adrenalin was really flowing. God help me it was all I could do to keep from tearing his drivers’ door off it’s hinges and throwing him into apposing traffic.
But I'm ok now - I'm in my happy place.

I've been there, and know exactly what you have experienced. However, in my case, I was not so lucky. The idiot just slammed into the back of my 914/6 and pushed it out into oncoming traffic. Thus began a saga that brought out total outrage and contempt in my mind toward this broken legal system of ours. At one point in our "exchange" at the side of the road, the guy that hit me expressed anger at my being in his way as he was trying to run the red light.
My first reaction was amazement at his illogical reasoning abilities, but then I asked him straight out WTF he planned to do about it. He finally backed down and abandoned his claim that it was all my fault, and submitted to my demands for his ID. Just a punk kid who hadn't learned what makes the world go 'round yet. But the real punks were the attorneys who ultimately became involved.
You were lucky no collision took place and you could leave and be done with it. I ultimately cannot drive a stick shift car anymore and no one yet has compensated me for that, including that *$%&$%*#$% lawyer who missed a court date and compromised my case. I'm following him around waiting for a time when he steps off a curb and I am right there to end his ineptness and arrogance toward other humans on this planet.
