K.,
Still a nice looking sHARk, you ought to consider it any way.
Mike,
Are those the two new tank and pump units...awful small. Or, are they Fast Response Emergency Vehicles?
Hell of a car wash you got there...
Jessa,
I have recently opened the Saint John's Orphanage for wayward Weissach's though all denominations (MY's) welcome.
Just sign the papers and Father John will bring your golden child into the fold.
Small impositions such as the flight out there and the airline food are a small price to pay when one considers we are saving the loved one from traveling down the path to perdition... .
However, we do expect the tank to be topped off and proper psi in the tires
Chucker and Joel,
Not confusing, but verwy, verwy, interwesting...
You guy's may have something with even lower production numbers than the Weissach, Club Sports.
If it won't make you paranoid could you E me the VIN's and build dates. My address is under my Renn. profile. I'm curious if the (pre) S's were built in the Vin # grouping and same build date time frame. Pattycakes Vin#WPOJAO925CS821514, build date Feb./982.
I 'think most of the Weissach's were built early in the year. Another Rennlist first? Ain't networking neat?
Serendipity strikes again...KBlair...what hast thou wrought?

Joel and John, My car was ordered with the "sport or Comp" package. I do not have all of that in front of me it's in the car. But it did have the sport seats and suspension a manual five speed and a few other things. I will put this all together soon and post pictures.

Hi John,
I'll e-mail you as well but my build date was 05 82 and my Vin is WP0JA0923CS822211. I have the factory brochure from '82 as well and it shows a S package equiped '82 that is red in color.
Back when I was lookig for my car I remember running across a '79 928 that also had the S spoilers but was not a Euro and had the "regular" seats etc. Apparently these spolers could be ordered seperate.
Thanks!!!!
Joel

Jay....the link is fixed....one of the hazards of linking to sites is that they change without notice.

John, I sent you my vin #WPOJAO923CS820555 but that begs the question for someone like me who does not understand vin #'s does the 0555 at the end indicate that it was the 555th built that year and your 1514 was built after that one? At what number did they start to export the cars or was that just a crap shoot? And were all of the Weissach built in one numeric run? If so where did it start and end?

Joel,
Now I am curious!
If you still have access to the Brochure for 82' could you take a peek again and see if the advertised 82 has Euro markers or not?
Thanks in advance.

Chucker,
This is was I was trying to check...Those wiser Porschephiles have pointed out on numerous occasions that there was a period of time when Vin's were a hodge podge of sorts, rather than Block assignment of Vin's, and only joined the "international assignment" sometime in the 80's. I thought this would be odd because it is plainly inefficient to build a Standard, Club, Euro, and a Weissach on the same line 'at the same time'. Slapping the different type models on a sequenced chassis numbered line seems ...ODD. Due to differences in suspension, interior, engine type, wheels, etc... Some of the "bin" items used for assembly would be easy to swap but forged ally rims, all leather interior-Weissach-, lighter weight, Euro engined - Club Sport-, Row's. Assembling them at different times of the year might be OK, but what happens when Someone hands down a list that say's: "we want 10 Weissach's, 5 Club Sports, 15 Standard 82's (U.S.), 20 82' Standards (ROW's),
15 Euro's, AND THEN, a 20 car hodge podge of the previous list with the (yet unreleased) 83 S standard spoiler package. And we want them by the end of next week for shipment!"
It can be done, but I wouldn't want to work on that line.
The Weissach's as I see it-so far- did 'clump' a bit.
But, just looking at your Vin and Joels show you guy's at either end of what I currently have as the Weissach model run. Now for some Club Sport Vin's to prove once and for all that the Wise one's were correct , yet again!
I guess information/facts wether for, or, against a pet idea/theory is a good thing and will help sort things out - at least in my mind!-.
no rhyme or reason
thanks for the Info

John,
When I purchased my Weissach the previous owner gave me a copy of a letter with the following..

Dear Mr. Silver,

Thank you for the letter dated 01-11-1983 which was directed to us - technical service - for - reply.

We have read the contents of your letter with interest and are pleased to learn that your expectations in the quality and performance of your PORSCHE 928 have been meet.As far as possible we are gladly prepared to answer your inquires.

Your 928 is a quite unique and limited vehicle.Only 206 1982 Weissach models were produced. We however regret to inform you that it is not possible for us to exactly determine which of the 206 vehicles your car is.The production of the Weissach model did not occur at one period of time.Instead, the cars were produced periodically of 3 to 4 units per day.

Should you have further inquiries or encounter difficulties with your 928 we ask that you contact our Importer Messrs. who will be glad to assist you.

We once again thank you for taking the time to write us and wish you many pleasant miles with your PORSCHE 928.

Yours sincerely,

Dr. Ing.h.c.Porsche

Maybe this might clear up a bit of the confusion about the production numbers being what they are....

John, thanks for the reply. I kind of thought that Porsche may have done things like you mentioned. They were built one at a time and it shows in the quality. It's kind of hard to think in that way of not doing things the easy way.

Thumbs up

Mike,
Frame that letter! Make copies!
That letter alone will probably save a lot of curious 928 owners the bother of even wondering about vin's, build dates when it comes to their specific models.
Thanks a heap!
John S and Pattycakes
Chucker,
That solve a portion of the problem...
Maybe you can use that address on Mike's letter to get a response on the spoilers... I for one can always use a dollop of enlightenment from a Porsche Rep. would help to clean up some of the 928 urban/suburban legends.

Hi John,
Just looked at the brochure. The car with the "S" spoilers has no sidemarker, therefore not a Euro. It also has no side strip but is apparently equiped with sport seats. Also the front fascia has the brake cooling ducts that work in conjunction with the front S spoiler.
Also, just for my clarification, by "Club Sport" your referring to the spoiler package, correct?
I don't recall a Club Sport in '82, only in the late 80's when Porsche produced a "Lightweight" 928 with less sound deadening, CS logo on the fender and no pass. mirror.
Thanks and it's always great learning more about history on these great cars!
Joel
