Unhappy Auto Tran Slipping in 4th

My 84 has an Auto transmission. The car has 89k original miles. My transmission slips when going into fourth gear. At highway speeds, I occasionally have to rev the rpms up until fourth finally grabs.

The fluid was a little low, so I topped it off (while the engine was running). The slip is not as severe but still happens occasionaly. I was told to "burp" the system being that I have an aftermarket radiator which cools the oil, water and tranny fluids?. Is this information true or am I looking at a tranny overhaul?.

1. Change the filter, with a good one.
2. ATF, with RED LINE.
3. It will take 1 hour to hour 30 to do right.

Good luck

My Mercedes has the same transmission as the 928 and was suffering the same issues. The fix as Greg wrote is to change the fluid and filter and use the correct tranny fluid. A transmission fluid flush would be a good idea as well to help remove any contaminants.
