I think Ill do the conversion to the DOHC conversion. Ill keep the original just in case I sell it. That is if I dont find a newer car I like. But I would be interested in setting up a twin turbo. Im an engine builder by trade so I dont think itll be all foreign. The only thing is that Im not too familiar with setting up turbo engines. Any one in the New York City area feeling ambitious?

Well that is my goal to get around 500x500 out of a 4.5L

Ilove the idea of a project but hate the fact that Im limited with the combo I have. I did stumble accross a black '84 today but its an auto and needs alot. On the plus side I do have all the factory shop manuals. All 8 of them from Porsche.
As I was believe was suggested, you want to get at least an '85 for the 5L motor with available aftermarket parts. The difference between '85 and '86.5 isn't motor related, but the brakes and suspension parts are very nice to have, and considering your intended hp, the brakes are almost a need.

IMO: Find AT LEAST an '86.5 for your intentions

I think we have a few NY'rs here.

Rennlisters that I know have swapped 32v motors into 16v cars: BrendanC and Lizard931. Use the search function to find their threads.

Twin-turbo: very ambitious. Lizard931 is doing one full custom DIY.

Also, a fellow that got himself banned from here (but let's not discuss that) is reportedly close to offering a complete twin-turno kit for 87+ (which are called S4) 928s. Reportedly he's putting down power in the range you're looking for - but it will not be cheap. He posts on a rival Porsche forum now.

There are other supercharger vendors also, such as 928 Specialists
https://www.928gt.com/default1.htm
who offer a very trick intercooled twin-screw complete kit . Ask Andrew Olson about his - he's aiming for 500/500 with his new setup.

Thank you all very much for the help. Im going to look into possibly getting an '86.5. If that doesnt work out then Ill look to doing a conversion. I expected a complete car build. I wish there was more R&D on the twin turbo kit. That would help to broaden my options.
