Excellent thread guys! I'm mid brake maintenance (including freshly painted rotor hats and calipers - yeah!) and have to deal with my ABS warning light sitch. This thread will be very handy. Thanks. -Ed

I should add that my ABS relay issue also caused a draw on the battery, engine off key out. With Alan's help we tracked the issue of the draw which helped finding the eventual ABS issue.............thats 2 relays in 3 years @ ~$80ea

Thanks Alan, I believe that is so .... but didn't have the time to tear the ABS ECU apart. I did check the driver's handbook, but it didn't clarify the issue.

There's bugger all information on this early version of the ABS system (pre PSD), so this thread and other similar ones in the RL archives are invaluable.

You were certainly very unlucky. My relay is the original, with a late '85 manufacture date stamped on it.

The current draw sound as though it was due to the Zener diode which is on the fused 12v input feed to the contacts (pin 30 of the relay)

if your having problems with the relay the most likly thing is that they have gotten wet . This problem will be caused by a leaking blower box that is situated just above the CE panel. So remove the lower blower box, the blower can stay just where it is or you can remove it through the opening in the well after you remove the blower box, no hood removal or any other body parts are required to get out the motor.
Lube the bearing while its out and check the vacuum pot in the blower box.
Put a towel over the CE panel before you remove the blower box and clean out the well ( towel will catch all of the leaves and other debris that fall)
