Has anyone else tried the leather shift boot for auto trans that's available from 928 Spec? I installed mine today, and I love it. It's a black leather boot, pretty much the same as on a 5 sp, plus the plastic to replace the PRND32 plate/slider.
If interested, you can see the picture at the <a href="http://www.928gt.com/interior.htm#auto" target="_blank">928 Spec web site.</a>
BTW, anybody in need of the rubber accordion thingy that I just took out? It's nearly perfect, but I will NOT be putting it back in! The PRND32 plate is up for grabs, too, but it's not in great shape, a bit scratched up. First person to raise their hand can have one or both.

Michael,
I just came off of their (928 Spec.) website and I am going to place an order for that item tomorrow. How long did it take you to put it on ? Right now, I have the Jager shifter installed and I think the combination would look great. I haven't taken off the center console of my 928 yet (kinda scared to...) so I wondering how easy / difficult it was to do.

just got mine in the mail friday, havent had time to put it on yet. My PRND32 lights dont work at this point but it wont stop me, I always know what gear im in....the next lower one : )
OT: Frikn smoked a mustang GT last night on the beltway @ 2am from 80mph. He pulled up next to me, slowed, then nailed it...Put my foot to the floor...He had the jump but that was all, wasnt even a contest.
Cant imagine what a Stroker can do!

Looks like Greg is the quickest on the draw!
I probably spent about an hour getting the boot put in, but that included a good bit of cleaning, vacuuming, searching around, etc. Probably around 30 minutes to install is a reasonable guess.
My only complaint was that the instructions (from the manuf, not 928 Spec) weren't clear. The sheet was a combo of several different models, and didn't address the 928 AUTO specifically, although it did have steps for the 5sp.
I loosened the lower end of the console, but looking back, I probably didn't have to. It made it easier, though, to figure out what was holding the PRND32 plate down. turns out that the slider up the middle is a few inches longer than the plate, and that has to be slid in one direction first.
OK, that wasn't too clear. Once you get the T handle off, then the accordion, you'll notice that the slider (the ribbed plastic in the center and underneath the PRND32 plate) has a couple of **** that are snapped into the shift lever. Pry those apart, push the slider to the back, pop out the front of the plate. The plate will then lift out, you may have to pull the slider back toward the front, but it will be obvious by this point.
Like I said, it was a bit easier with the end of the console raised so you can get your hands under it, but probably not necessary.
Hope you guys like yours as much as I do!

Just got off of the phone with 928 Specs. and ordered one of those beauties. They said that the demand was so great for those that the guy responsible for making them is swamped. I should get mine sometime in November. That should give me plenty of time to go over the center console procedure. I will also replace my radio at the same time. I also will cover over the area where the clock used to be (PO's hack-up alarm LED resides there now) with some carbon fiber.

That does look good, but I don't want to delete the lighted PRND21 (the lights are working) on my '79 as there is no gear position indicator on the dash as in later years.
Any plans at 928 Specialists to develop one for the earlier auto models that retains the lighted PRND21 section?

Wish I would have seen this post earlier. I need the accordian slider and the plastic part that attaches to the base of the shift lever. If anyone is going to convert and wants to part with their plastic parts I would be glad to put them to use!

I just ordered an aluminum PRND32, full leather shift boot, and GTS shifter from Jager (along with some other stuff). I'll post pics of the before and after, so you can judge the difference between the 928SP offering and the Jager.
While I'm in there, I'll be repairing/replacing window, sunroof, and wiper switches and then applying the Jager overlays. Those look pretty sweet, and the price is right.

Hey Robert - I'll have to check out Jager's 'full' boot. Thanks.
Dave - why are you switching from the Jager to the 928SP boot?

Randy,
I can't speak for Dave but I have the Jager full boot kit. It is very nice but WOW the one from 928 Spec beats it by a mile, and is quite a bit less expensive. I will probably switch too. I will not give up the Carbon Shark Tip by Jager though. Every auto owner should have one of those.

Paul's "full" boot only covers the accordian area of the stock shift plate. i asked Paul if he could make a 5-speed style boot that covered the entire shifter area for the auto and he wasn't sure that was a good idea since the early cars don't have the heads-up for the shifter.
the SP boot is the one i wanted all along...
