You can adjust the throttle rod end in or out. IIRC, there is an adjustment at the firewall to take up the cable slack, to.

Good, I'm glad you got it cleared up.
I have the stock fan assembly and bracket here from an 86 car. I compared the location of the stock pivot assembly to the location of the pivot assembly on the 85-86 sc bracket and it is within 1mm of the stock one I have here. The bracket I have doesn't look bent at all so I am surprised yours didn't bolt right up. I would expect some adjustment would be required but definetly not outside of the adjustment range of the cables.

The flow characteristic [Cv] of a butterfly valve ( which the throttle body is) is effectively maxed out at 70% opening ... so in reality, that last 5-10% of swing doesn't effectively cause more airflow.
A caution is to not have every cable singing tight with the butterfly wide open and the throttle mashed to the floor. This is what promotes stretch or breakage ...... so leaving a little slack can be a good thing.
