dont need to drain the tank, pretty simple operation although one of the nuts maybe frozen on from many years without replacement.

Squeeze the hose that runs from the tank outlet to the pump with your fingers. If it is supple and relatively soft to the touch, clamp it off. If it is hard and stiff, you'll need to drain the tank first to replace the hose.

It is highly unlikely that the filter has anything to do with the pump noise. If the filter were restrictive you would have issues when trying to drive 80 MPH and there was not enough fuel volume to allow that speed. Possibly the rubber isolation mounts for the pump are broken and the pump is hitting the metal lower pan ??

Mine started buzzing a couple of days ago, then stopped buzzing the next day. Whatever.

my FP buzzes after long distances; almost like its getting warm from working for sometime. When cold or only short distances it doesn't buzz.

Buzz or no buzz it works fine............pressure is always good; touch wood.

If your pump gets louder and louder as you drive be sure that the tank vents are working and allow air to enter the tank as the fuel is consumed . Some have collapsed the fuel tank / get a loud rush of air into the tank when the cap is removed after a long drive.

Thanks for that tip, Jim. I was surprised when my pump started making noticeable noise the other day, but surprised again when the noise was gone the next day.

same for my GTS.

Although, previous S4's FP got noisier as a precursor to dying. So keep an eye on it.

My pump, check valve, filter, and the small hose are all new and for some reason, some days it buzzes, and some days it doesn't. I'm not too worried about it, but I will check the vents when it warms up some.
