Does anyone know if there is a non glass headlight that can be used in the 928? I would like to avoid having to tape the headlights everytime I go to the track (they have to be 100% taped) and would prefer not to permanently cover the glass with clear stick on covers as it will undoubtedly reduce the efficiency of the lights. Cheers, Charles 93GTS.

I installed 3-M clear plastic stick-on over 8 year ago and you cannot tell that there is a plastic covering fitted until you get up close. I have not noticed any loss of illumination fro the headlights
The product also provides protection for the lenses.

+1 for clear covers. I use Stoneguard and am happy with them. I've had them on for over five years and simply wipe of the surface now and then without thinking about it being non-glass. I lost an expensive light unit during the first few months of ownership and these coverings have resulted in no further losses. Well worth the money. When I get enough cash together to paint my car, I will install 3-M Clear Bra and leave it on to prevent the salt and pepper finish now on the front bumper and lower hood. California has lots of roads with sand and so does Arizona where I have been seen driving in the desert.
What someone needs is to invent a covering for windshields; I am on my second and it is already speckeled with sand pits. $1000 a copy !!

Why not get little bonnets you can tie over the headlights? Like really big Crown Royal pouches or something with drawstrings, that you just fit on with the lights up, then put the lights down and you're done. Would that work?

Hmmmm, Frisbees, Bonnetts or clear 3M film - I think I'll give the clear film a try as people have had a good run with it. As for Frisbees and Bonnetts, this is Australia - I could get arrested!! Cheers, Charles

actually the frisbee idea is not all bad. There are a number of aftermarket spotlights available that come with covers, by Hella etc. Is it possible you could find something of the right size you could pop on for a track day, and throw in the boot when not needed?

Matt - the request was for alternatives to GLASS (so they wouldn't have to be taped up for track use) - not just alternatives to stock units...
Charles - the Stongard covers are good - it lasts well - in Phoenix - easily 5 years before there is any appreciable yellowing. Very clear - almost impossible to tell its there from just a few feet away

Allen, Charles said non glass Headlight. The ones I pionted out are Plastic and I have them on my car, they have a replacable bulbs from the back. I'll try to post a picture later. I'm not sure that you wouldn't have to tape these to but that would be up to race officals and the rules.

I'm sorry Alan you were right I order these for a modification project and they got here yesterday and I think they are glass, But I know you can get these in plastic because the ones I posted that are currently on my car are plastic, I thought they were the same one since they were so cheap.
