Default 320 or 340? (steering wheel size - rv)

I'm looking at a new steering wheel and trying to decide which size works best. I prefer small diameter, thick-rimmed wheels with a round cross section and I've found one I really like, comes in both of those sizes. Right now I've got the stock 4-spoke which is WAY too big, and I used to have a 350mm Momo wheel which I also thought was too big. Anyone ever fit these sizes to a 928?

from what you have done to your car already I would say you would probably be happier with a 320.

FYI this is the wheel I'm looking at, found for a somewhat reasonable price.

That is a nice wheel Mark, somewhat similar to the 930S. Does it have an adapter to mount it to the 928?

The smaller diameter quickens the steering at an increase in effort..I run a little one in the old very brown 1980...

I like the more modern look of the airbag wheel even though I obviously won't have the airbag, and I'm thinking about getting Paul to do a nice center cover in leather with an embossed logo. They sell adapters for almost any car and I know they install them in the later model Porsches, just need to check and see if they will fit a 928. Jim are you running a 320 wheel? That's the one I'm really leaning towards and I don't mind the higher effort, as long as it's not too bad. I actually drove my old 928 for a couple months without any power steering at all! I wouldn't recommend it, but it's possible.

Great looking wheel. I am wondering....would a 320 obsure the view of the water temp gauge?

I used to own a 951 which uses a similar gauge layout as the '83 928 dash. I recollect anything smaller than 350 would make the water temp gauge difficult to see. This would be an important consideration for me considering the water-cooled nature of our cars. I have had by car less than a year and have had two coolant issues. Therefore, having a clear view of the water temp is important to me

Mark, I drive my 81 with 245s on the front with the pump removed, I have no issues with it.

I think the 930S wheel is 350mm.....vs the stock wheel at 380mm...... One thing I noticed was the smaller wheel does obscure the outer guages a little bit, but not that bad really!!...a 320mm wheel would be worse

I'm not so worried about obscuring the gauges, that's what the central warning system is for...what, you don't trust it? Yes the 350mm wheel is about the smallest while still keeping a clear view of all gauges, but I still think it's too big. I look around the wheel all the time in other cars, so I'm used to it.

Except for the little horn indicators and the brand badge, this is a good looking wheel. I would black (or dark gray) them out, but that might look worse.

You need a light (in weight) and big (in diameter) steering wheel.

There is no real advantage in a small wheel. It might feel "sportier" but you will not gain any car control.

You need to think about the resolution - the bigger wheel will give you more of it for better precision.

It will also take less effort to fight the tires when correcting a (bad) slide.

I actually like the horn indicators and the badge can probably be replaced. Raid has a couple different models where the horn buttons are "stealthed" but the logo is at the bottom of them all. Hmmm, sounds like a job for Paul.

Hi

Mine is a 330 mm with a square bottom which is great to use and yes it slightly obscures the instruments but not drastically and it also gives a lot more leg room .
Its blue/black...

All the best Brett

Anders the steering wheel on the car in your Avitar looks like it might be a little small might be better with a 928 steering wheel , get that extra precision...
