Flag Mirror Flapping in the Wind
Just noticed one of my side mirrors is loose at the pivot point. Instead of snapping back, it now swivels.
Anyone have a clue what I need to do to fix it?

Remove the mirror then the motor assembly and see where the piece that compresses the spring is at. You may want to remove the assembly from the door as the spring is quite strong.

Hey John,
I'll give you a hand fixing that (if I can borrow the Kempf tool & flywheel lock)

Dave, you know, I've run into trees before with mirrors. Luckily, another vehicle.
Thanks Malcolm. I was afraid someone was going to say that.
JP, what's mine is your's to borrow. But I need to check to see if the flywheel lock is compatible with both cars. Luckily, I think it may be. Also, let me know if you need anything else. Along with where to send my Cayman offshore account number.

I just did this on my 928 not to long ago. If the mirror is still attached to the base and is just loose the cheese nut just needs to be tighten, if not than you need to remove the mirror glass and motor assembly. Push the mirror towards the front of the car to reveal the allen bolt that attaches the base to the car. Loosen the bolt as much as possible the mirror+base should pull right out as one unit. Flip it over and you should see the cheese bolt that as the mirror wires running through it. Tighten that bolt to get the flag mirror secured to the base.
Thanks
Thanks

No problem, if the bolt has backed out all the way you are in for a treat. The spring takes some muscle to compress while tightening the bolt at the same time. Good Luck with it..

DA QUICK FIXXXXX-TAKE MIRROR OFF DOOR AND USE LARGE FLAT TIP SCREWDRIVER TO PLACE AT SIDE OF WIRES, PRESS IN FIRM AND TIGHTEN AS YOU GRIT YOUR TEETH THIS WORKED FOR ME ON MY '82. Good luck, how's the black car fender

The aero mirror kit comes dis-assembled and to get the 'guide tube' in place while compressing the spring is a little challenging. Assuming the flag mirrors are same (I didn't take my OEM's apart) I'm not sure how you'd torque this piece as it locks into the mirror fame.

Thanks for the tips. Didn't know about the torque value.
Fender is still black. But does the above mirror technique only work 3 hours before a GTG? If so, I'll have to look for another method because I want to fix it now.
