Post 1982 Color

Hello all,
Having the old 928 totally repainted in the near future. Want to go with an original color for the model year(not car's original color). Am thinking of code 961 Meteor Gray Metallic. According to color chart on 928 Int. website this was a color for '82, however in my '82 Porsche brochure this was listed as a 924 color only.Does anyone know how this can be verified?
Did Porsche do special request colors like Jaguar used too? My '69 Jag E-Type was originally some wierd green that I was always told was a custom order color and I though Porsche may have done the same. Just curious.
Thanks!
Joel

Yes they did paint special order colors, my '83
was painted a non-928 color for that year.
I don't know about back then but now they will
paint any color you like.
On that note if you are going to have that much
work done don't limit yourself to Porsche only
colors (unless that is your fav.)

Hey Joel

Try this link

<a href="http://www.landsharkoz.com/colourstart.htm" target="_blank">http://www.landsharkoz.com/colourstart.htm</a>

He has an excellent color guide and if i remember correctly he tried to narrow down the years that certain colors are available.

Meteor Grey metallic was a 924 color, and was discontinued (no longer available as a standard color) in 1983. The colors choices for the 911 and 928 models differed from the 928/944 series because the latter were built by Audi in Neckarsulm, and therefore ran through a different paint line. Later, with the 968 being built in Zuffenhausen as well, all Porsche models got the same color chioices.

Over the years, we have seen various 928s that came from the factory in 924/944 colors.

Porsche has offered custom "paint to match" and "leather to match" options for a long time. Using a 924/944 color would probably have fallen under these options. Supposedly, some women even had their car colors matched to their lipsticks! (or was that the idea of some super wealthy husbands?)

Now, I don't know what these ladies did when the lip color fashion changed...

To answer Nicole's question;

They had the super wealthy hubby by a new car
to match the current fashion of course.

Personally,
I'd get a new set of lips, and keep the sHARk!

Thanks for all of the input. Actually the site that John K. is referring to is the one I looked at that listed Meteor Metallic Gray as an '82 color and started the confusion on my part.
Thanks again!
Joel
