Default 1/10 Scale 928 Body for RC Car?

Anyone know where I can find one? I'd prefer lexan but I'd make do with a metal version.

The 928 phones aren't even close to 10th scale...more like 35th or something. 10th scale is going to be like a little less than a foot wide by less than 2 feet long roughly speaking. Best bet is to block out the basic shape in wood, get your enlarged drawings from the blue print shop and fling some clay at it. After a month of fiddling with the details, dry it out and then you have your mold.

Good luck on this one...would love to see the results!

GREAT avatar btw Popo!

IIRC (I know little about forming plastics) there is some way you can produce either moulds or the lexan type body shells relatively easily once you have a 3d Cad model ?

I bought a TT for my HPI too and before I painted it, I used it as a mold for my pinata which we destroyed in WI!

Tony, go to any Art Supply store. They have all the tools you will need to shape the clay...as well as books and such for modeling clay and building subsupport.

Andrew...you scare me bro.

Ummm... it is a plastic. It'll soften with enough heat.

I have a 55cm long 928 model, like this one.

I'm sure you could use the body as a model. It is very well made.
The scale is around 1/8th!

The brand is Rico (Spain).

Actually, I just remembered I have this in my display case if it helps. It measures 12.5" in length and 5.5" in width.

I also was looking for a 1/8 scale body for my 4WD nitro buggy.....but if someone found a nice 10th scale body I would buy an on-road electric just to set it up!! The new brushless motors with Li-Po batteries are the hot setup (unless the batteries explode) There doesn't seem to be any 928 bodies out there at all

You are correct about some plastics not softening with heat, those would be thermoset class materials. But lexan is a polycarbonate of the thermoplastic classification.

OK, did some searching and found this handy reference:

http://www.portplastics.com/architect/page22.html

Sample, reprinted without permis:

"Polycarbonate sheet must be dried before thermoforming because polycarbonate absorbs moisture at a high rate. Trapped moisture forms vapor above 250°F, and the vapor expansion creates bubbles in the sheet. Sheets of polycarbonate should be placed in a dehumidifying air circulating oven for predrying with approximately 1" separation between sheets. Oven temperature should be 250°F and monitored with controls. Recommended predrying time periods are shown below. A note of caution-polycarbonate sheet begins absorbing moisture immediately upon removal from the predrying oven. The rate of absorption is dependent upon the ambient dew point. For this reason, it is crucial to transfer the sheet directly to the forming machine as quickly as possible."

I do know, from having worked in a thermoforming shop long ago, that forming thin plastics is easy (relatively speaking) - they require less heat to get squishy and less vac to draw them down to the mold. So I bet that a 1/10 scale body could be DIY'd in the garage. Just gotta secure oven rights for a while to "dry" the sheet...
