Default Disappearing Door mod

Ok, maybe everyone has seen this already, but it was a 1st for me.
here's a link to the web site for a "disappearing door" modification.

http://www.disappearing-car-door.com/

I didn't read thru the site to see if they state any specific applications or costs. Just thought the video was cool how they engineered it. Apparently they are located in SoCal.

I wanna see some 928er apply this to a shark perhaps. If all cars had it, you'd have little use for the loathed "rub strips" & it'd certainly cut into the paintless dent removal biz too.

That's cool! I thought it was a joke site at first.

Imagine the headroom on a 928, if the door slid under the seat!

yeah I thought about the possibilty of somehow it being a photoshopped video, if thats somehow possible too. But it looks legit & pretty cool too. I wonder about look from the side on a 928, of the area below where the door goes. Maybe if you could have a aero side skirt look to go with it, then it'd be fine.

That site may not be for real, the concept is. I've seen it before in person.

nice Z1

THe idea is pretty cool, but there is no way that mechanism the way they had it and how smooth it is would function. It sure as hell would never worht with he average car door being what 6" wide at least with interior trim.

Great idea though, beats gull wings if you ask me.

I dont think it has enough benefits to change such a simple current , reliable design to something so mechanically technical. Maybe on really really high end non practical stuff.... but not an everyday driver

The black Lincoln, as featured in their ad, was actually for sale on eBay this past summer. It was listed as the factory prototype and included a short video (a homemade video and not the video in the aforementioned link) of the operation. It was indeed pretty cool to watch. I will say that the door did not retract or close quite as quickly as the commercial indicated. It operated about as quickly as the windows do on our 928s (well mine anyway); kinda at a medium speed. At the speed indicated in the video, I could just imagine someone loosing an extremity by operating the close button over zealously.

Man.....I am nervous about fixing my sunroof, I cant imagine having an electrical problem with a door like that. Also wouldnt that cause the interior to wear quickly. You have to roll down the window everytime you want to get in or out of the car?

The rocker panel is a MAJOR structural part of a unibody car especially a 928 that would be a nightmare. And if you ever got in an accident !!! the lack of a strong rocker would be rather dangerous... And as mentioned raising the floor and seat higher !!! I think not.

Drive for 10 minutes in the snow then push all that crap in there. Or better yet during really windy (with snow or rain, your pick) and open both doors. Instant carpet and seat wash......
