Porsche owner's can't say this doesn't happen to them. I've seen on average one engine blow at each of the track events this year.

We have the 944 spec series, which is supposed to be the "cheap" way to get into competitive racing by using a low cost 944, gut it out and put in some safety equipment. What they don't realize is any old car that will be on the track should have at least the rod bearings replaced.

Damn near EVERY one of those spec 944 cars has either spun a rod bearing or thrown a rod through the block. The many of the "piston excursions" were worse than these pictures.

There have also been new BMW M3s blow and other pretty new cars blow-up. Things let loose at high RPMs.

SteveJ re: Polishing the Turd. If you are referring to the car, you got it wrong. Would you down shift your 928 the way they did? Of course its not a 928, but nobody said it was. As others pointed out, no car or transmission can handle that abuse. They are sad alright, but it's the "humanity, the humanity" or is it the "ignorance, the ignorance" Speed shops make a lot of money on these cosmetic upgrades and in the end, the 928 looks better.

I thought it was a promo for the new movie-
"The FAST and the stupidas$hit" <img border="0" alt="[hiha]" title="" src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" />

Or maybe the sequel-
"2FAST, 2stupidas$hit"

Pure and simple, this engine over-revved and broke a rod....usually happens on a hard downshift like that. Rev limiter does nothing there, it is all about vehicle speed and gear ratio.

If you know what you are doing, you should never see ultra high rod breaking engine speeds like that. Still, it is fun to see all the parts he had to pick up.

I agree on the dumb as *hit comment. These punk kids are a danger to all of us who drive on the streets. I even heard a new Mitsubishi commercial stating you can come and see two of the cars featured in this stupid new punk movie.

I said it before, Mitsubishi must have something at stake with this movie. All of those punk kids will be out purchasing yellow Lancer turbos after the weekend.

You won't catch me dead in a little tin can like that after it smacks into something because of some stupid punk kid driver.

I'm so sick of this huge wing, look at me body kit garbage out there.

This is deffently not limited to the ricers out there.

I've known more than one idoit that throw a rod cause of dumb $hit like that.

And guys that have twisted off drive shafts. Blown up expensive tires. Gotten their truck stuck, and the truck they where going to use to pull it out, they also got stuck, etc. Next thing you know there are three or four imoveable trucks, and a tractor or two...

A girls that have rolled over cars. (all by themselves)

Cars are in no way idoit proof, and it is reproved daily!

I can't say the new ricer movie can help any of this, but I don't see it hurting much eighter. I mean, how many of us watched "Smokey and the Banndet", and then wanted that firebird? OR "The Dukes of Hazard" and then wanted a Dodge charger? I know I did, and it was reruns when I saw them. Who paints the stars and bars on the top of their car, not expecting to be looked at? Or a huge hood scoop for a non roots engine? Or the flameing paint jobs? Or wheelie bars? Or any of the other stupid stuff kids used to do way back when?

Heck, my dad had a Mercary Montego, and what he did to it would be concidered rice today. Wide aluminum wheels, blown out glass packs, and a bit of paint, on a little V6 engine. This was before the term ricer was even around, much less in Texas. I still don't know how he survived his youth.

Young gear-head wanna-bes will do stupid ****. They'll blow up motors, wreck cars, and hopefuly, not kill any one. Best thing youc an do is watch out so you don't get sandwiched between them and the moms in SUVs. That rather like being between an unstopable force, and an imoveable wall.
