928 weight specs vs. door sticker?
According to the specs, such as those available at 928 Specialists' specs page, my 85 auto weighs around 3439 lbs. Why, then, does the sticker on the inside of my door say 4123 lbs? What's the difference here? Does the first number not take into account fuel, oil, coolant, tires, and that sort of stuff? That's almost 700 lbs difference!
Just curious...

BTW - I took my 78 928 5 speed to the dump cuz they have a good scale to weigh cars before and after dumping. My shark with me (200 lbs) in it and a full tank of gas, spare tire and jack - nothing else - was EXACTLY 3600 lbs. I needed this info to calibrate my g-force meter.

So, why does my door sticker read 4480 lbs? That's a little more than what I can fit even with two other passengers and luggage. Suppose it was used to smuggle East Germans over during the cold war?
That would explain the skull jamming the headlights in the up position.

Mike & Flint,
If you are joking...cool.
If not watch out... Randy gets livid over this repetitive Owners Manual stuff.
So, if you have one read it. If you don't get one. I know 928 International has them ...state your year/model when ordering one about $20.00 so no excuse for not having one. Devek and 928 Parts Secialists no doubt have them as well.
Weights for the 82' and 82'S MY
Unladen weight specified by DIN 1450kg = 3190lbs
Max. permissible weight 1870kg = 4114lbs
Max. axle load front* 900kg = 1980lbs
Max axle load rear* 1100kg = 2310lbs
Max trailer weight unbraked** 750kg = 1650lbs
Max trailer weight braked** 1600kg = 3520lbs
Max roof rack load*** 75kg = 165lbs
Max. trailer-nose weight 50kg = 110lbs
Max.pulling weight(car + trailer)3470kg = 7634lbs
* = Do not excede max. permissible weight
** = Gradient up to 12 %
*** = Applies to basic rack of Porsche transport system. If old type of Porsche ski and luggage racks are used max weight is 35kg = 77lbs
The owners manuals have a lot of stuff you NEED to know. Capacities, filler locations, pressures, gearing, front end adjustment spec's., those hidden ***** and mystery controls...It's a good read.
