Looking for 89 thru 91 S4
Unfortunately, a previous 95 GTS was taxing the budget but that’s ok because I couldn’t stop eyeing the S4. Looking for an 89’ through 91 (auto of course) with service records in as close to pristine condition as one can find. Open to colors except for the green stuff on the last 928 built, wow, what was that all about? (Or next to last as it’s debated)
I’ve looked high and low, Ebay every few minutes (no keepers yet) magazines, on-line till my eye’s bugged out and even dark alleys so, if you have one hiding in your barn or buried deep out back in a large tin can, I’m your guy.
And, I might add, just became a proud Rennlist member! John D, checks in the mail!

Thanks Nicole,
I'm keeping an eye on that one however, spoke with the dealship and they have no service records or history IE: T-belt, brakes, ect. being done. Not sure how to approach that one?

I found my last two 928s on cars.com. Less hype, more realistic sellers.
In any case, have a thorough pre-purchase inspection done. Find a specialist at 928 Mechanics Resource.
Good luck!

Brian Buxton at : http://www.buxtonmotorsports.com/ has a really nice low mileage Black/Tan '88. Brian only deals in really clean cars and has a good reputation.

I’m in Los Angeles but location isn’t an issue although I’ve heard banter about Midwest cars and salt, or coastal corrosion or desert heat/sun and so forth but after a solid PPI is done, I’ll travel where needed to find my shark!
Doug, I just got some pictures from Brian Buxton and as you say, it looks nice so I’m calling on that one. Say’s a surgeon used to own it and traded it in. Besides CarFax or Autocheck, is their another way to check the VIN# for x-dents and so forth? Has anyone personal bought from Brian Buxton? Does Porsche service track the VIN# for service from state to state? Any thoughts on LSD vs PSD?
And finally, Nathan’s post about “how many miles are too many” has been a concern of mine.
Thanks again, keep the tips coming!

Brian is straight about his cars. If there is a paint chip, he will inform you. I see him about once a month when I'm in Evansville on business, and his cars are as described. He also has personally owned 928's and has bought and sold many of them so he knows the cars and what to look for.

Regarding checking for accidents:
It isn't too hard to spot if a car has had any repaint. There are some obvious things to look for. If a trained eye can't tell, then the job was probably high quality $$$ and was probably fixed correctly. I'm sure Brian can spot if there has been any repaint on that car. You just need an honest dealer who hopefully will be honest and not waste your time when shopping. I will be back in Evansvillle aroung Feb 20th, so if you're still looking at Brians car, I can have a look at it. Let me know.

Brian seems pretty straight and helpful. Next step of course is a PPI; question is where in Evansville, IN so I’m researching that now. I’m also getting a few emails from fellow Rennlisters about tucked away 928’s. Rennlist “rocks”…now, any tips on that PPI in Evansville?
Thanks again all,
tdelarm

There is a Porsche/Audi dealer in Evansville but you need to look on the web for them, I can't remember the name. Also, there is a foreign repair place (Foreign Performance?) that I know Brian uses for all the Porsches and Ferraris and BMW's that he gets serviced. The guy is pretty good and is probably less than The Porsche dealer for a PPI. Brian can direct you to either of them. Find out where the car came from, I think Columbus OH. It is quite possible that the dealer in that area has recently seen it and done work on it.
