Did the heads crack because they were early production S4 heads ala 87-88 or did they crack from something else?

Any idea?

Keep in mind Don lives in Oregon....so it does get a bit cold there!!! As mentioned before, straight water like he was running at the time does freeze at 32f.....so that was about it....

If it cracked the heads...it can't be good for the block either..... But only Tom knows for sure!

That car really sounded amazing, I would love to hear that in person. Seeing that video makes me stop and think, why the hell would i sell my car! Obviously that probably has $20K in engine mods to it to make it sound that way, but i have the correct canvas to start off with.

Don had one of the 1st ITB intakes...& the only one with 52mm runners.....Louie runs 50mm runners..... it made close to 600whp on some dynos.....

Strokers just sound MEAN....I've heard Tims-Louies-Rob (928SS)...& they all sound mean....

Sterling, does that mean you will actually drive it to one of our GTG's after you get it back together?

Honestly, that car sounded more racer then big block or something. Are the strokers going to 7000 rpm? What kind of RPM are you stroker guys capable of redlining at?

A properly built stroker could do 7k no problem.......but with a 928's tall gears its kinda pointless.....it seems most strokers make peak power around 6-6500rpm....remember a 928 motor really is a torque motor...not a high RPM screamer....so why try to make it something its not....instead maximize its strengths!!

I get that Brian, but the point was that that car wasn't at 5,000 rpm. A formula 1 car sounds the way it does because you hear twice or 3 times as many sounds in the same amount of time that you do with a production V8. That changes the tone and sound of the engine. Yes If i had a stroker i wouldn't drive it that way, but I am in love with the sound that thing made. I never thought a 928 could sound like that i thought it was dubbed. (That and the fact that i seriously cant tell what that is it just looks like a black blob)

But it sure does sound sweet.

It almost sounds like a V12, before the upshift.

Dennis's stock 5.0L motor with headers and a single 3.5" exhaust sounds so SWEET......listen to it in this clip.....in about the middle you hear the 575hp viper go by, then a Ferrari F430...then dennis's 928....the 928 just sounds SO much better than the other cars! (BTW this is the same exhaust setup MK runs)
