Default Cis distributor control piston: lube or not ot lube?

Should I polish it up and install dry or install with oil?
If oil what kind? I don't want it to stick a year or two later from residue.
Thanks.

I just did mine and what ever you do, do not ruin the finish in anyway on the plunger or the plunger barrel. To clean, I just took some brake cleaner on a rag and wiped the plunger clean so no residue was present. When I put it back together, I just used some light oil...compressor oil. Works like a charm.

Keith I was following your thread, and it was excelent.
I lubed the control piston last year with wd40(doh) and it seems sticky now compared to what it was when i first lubed it. I think there is some residue now from the wd40. If I do it again i want some assurence that in years to come it will not stick due to the lube i used. Thats why i was wundering if clean and dry is the way to go.

It's got to have a lube. Otherwise you will scratch the crap out of it when you install is. Plus, it will most certainly get hung up and not move at all.

Anything you put on it has the potential of slowing down it's movement (drop) or collecting airborn particles which can gum it up. Recommend it be cleaned and reinstalled unoiled. If you need to lube it for insertion, use gasoline.

No lube due to potential for dust/debris to stick to it.

I used Lucas fuel system cleaner as lube. I figured it would evaporate quick, and seemed oily enough.. It did the trick, and I haven't had any trouble.

Thanks for the input. It's going in clean and dry this time.
