Alternator- New Exciter Resistor Still No Charge!!
#32
Flormat,
Jumping the exciter terminal might spark & smoke a little, there is current going through there!
It sounds like you should check the *starter*. <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" />
The (+) cable from your battery goes there first, then to your alternator & other current distribution... disassemble & clean the cables that connect there.
If you excite the field & get the alternator to kick in, and there is a bad connection at the starter, it could create some arcing there (from the charging current going back to the battery). This could create a serious problem in the current flow path.
Don't forget to disconnect the battery whenever messing with the (unfused) high-current cables!
