Coolant Level Sensor Repair?

Default Coolant Level Sensor Repair?

I'm getting a 'Low Coolant' warning, but visual inspection shows the level is OK.

Assume it is a failing level sensor and/or corrosion on the sensor connections.

Can the sensor be removed/serviced without removing the coolant expansion tank bottle? It looks to be too tight of a fit to pull the sensor out.

Ya gotta pull the tank Randy, no way around it. That said, it isn't that difficult to do, go for it.

Edit: no need to pull it out completely to get the sensor out, but it is a good time to clean it out wyait.

Replace the tank, cap, and level sensor at the same time.

Even if you repair the sensor, you can't find a gasket for it. Better to replace them all.

He right now other way to do other than pulling tank out. I just did this not to long ago and it was a total PITA. The far back 10mm screw in the far back corner is not exactly fun to get to. Take your time drink a few beers and it will go smooth. Good time to change out the tank if yours is yellowing..

If it is not corroded connections.
The little doofy inside the sensor tends to stick; you could try banging it on a table or something to try & free it.
Otherwise as people said change the whole tank & sensor; when you do you might consider if all the bolts are necessary - I mean the one at the back

It could be a bad pressure sensor in the rad bleed line, too?

no you dont have to pull the whole tank

you need to loosen one of the screws then pull the other completely out. Pull the easier screw to reinstall. But you can then rotate the bottle to then unscrew the large nylon nut with some channel locks and you can remove the sensor.

I had a used one that i bought from 928 but it didnt work, so i pulled my original out and used the electronic part from mine and installed it into the 928intl one that had a good float then it worked. The float is not the only thing that goes bad. With this in mind, i would buy new, new is like $60-$70

I fixed my sensor with the tank in the car by removing the screw closest to the windshield and loosening the front screw and rotated the bottle about 20-40 degrees to get access to the nylon nut. Removing the entire tank is a big pain because of 2-3 hoses that need to be removed.

you should try to get a new sensor i had a time doing the.......... this one looks good deal and after it was all said and done i got a new sensor and all is well, heed the advice about replacing the coolant bottle and cap, it is easier to remove the hoses from the opposite ends IE not at the tank connections to remove the tank. Put the hoses on the new tank before you install it, you can also use a proper sized O ring for the sensor seal

As I feared!

OK, I think I'm going to first see if the float is sticking.

If that doesn't correct it, I'll replace the sensor/tank in the manner indicated here.

you dont have to remove the entire tank, try removing the one bolt, loosen the other so you can rotate the tank, remove the nut and pull the sensor out. Its quite simple.

I would stick with a new sensor though.

Even to dick around with it, its probably no more then an hour job. Remove the top of the airbox cover for better access.

I tried. The workings/sensor is molded into the plastic. Not to say it can't be done, but it would be a waste of time imo.
