Before you dig to deep to get the sensor out determine if it is the cause of the low coolant light.

In my case the low coolant light is on, level is OK, unplugged the sensor and plugged it into a second sensor (checked for operation) - still a no go. Checked the pressure sensor (yeah there is one of those also) and it also doesn't appear to be the problem so I think I have a wire shorted to ground somewhere in the circuit that I have not found yet.

The good news is that I don't need to pull the tank to replace the sensor - the bad news is I need to trace the wiring to find the short.

FYI,

The replacement sensor i got had faulty internals. I know this because i installed it and i still got a low coolant warning. The inside looks like part of a thermometer. I cant think of another way to describe it, its a glass bubble with two wires that leads to the top where the cars harness plugs in. On my original, which had a completely disintegrated float, this glass bubble part was lower then the replacement one. What i decided was to use the newer used replacement body and pulled the internal wiring out and replaced it with the original insides. I replaced the whole thing and alas, no more low coolant warning.

Stick with a new sensor.
