Need a brain for my S4
OK, just a last check for a good deal before I send my LH-01 brain out for a rebuild.
Does anyone have a unit he wants to sell cheap?
Mine is part #: 928.618.123.10
I've heard others (.11, .12, .13...) from later models fit as well.
Looks like I am going to pay $550 for a rebuild with a 24 month warranty.
regards,
Sab.

FWIW: I rec'd this email on the rennlist email a few weeks ago - I have no involvement w it nor do I know of it's accuracy - I'm just passing along some information. Best to call the guy directly.

I think this message could be important for any S4, GT, GTS driver. These cars use the Bosch LH-Jetronic fuel injection controller.
After 10 to 15 years lifetime the first controllers are beginning to stop working correctly. One reason for this is the Hybrid-chip which is no longer available. A new controller is more expensive than 2000 € (Euro).
PFForum-members [a German language forum similar to Rennlist] wrote about a company (ACM Elektronik) which is able to repair all controllers. This information comes from a discussion with Mr. Müller from the ACM
Elektronik company:
If you have problems with your LH-controller, possible symptoms are:
- The fuel-injector-valves are ticking if ignition is on.
- If you remove your foot from the accelerator, the revolutions are higher than 2000 rpm and the car is coasting, the fuel-calculator didn´t show 0,0 litres/km.
- No smooth idle
- Air/fuel-mixture: too rich
- The engine won’t run at higher than 3000 rpm
- Automatic Transmission: no RPM regulation when switching from "D" to "N" or "P".
- Engine doesn´t run. The Spark plug is dry and is sparking.
Mr. Müller changed the original EPROM with a check EPROM and tests all functions with his own software. He said he knows the controller like he
build it by himself. Electronic components which are often fail the would be changed as part of the service.
The price for checking a controller is 50€ plus shipping.

Sab,
There is also a company in Texas that rebuilds LH computers. ( http://www.fullogic.com ) I think the cost to rebuild is $319 and that includes a lifetime warranty. I have no experience with them (turns out the problem I was having was a bad MAF which I had rebuilt) but it might be worth giving them a call.

Ritchie - Thanks for that link! I will call them in the morning. Partwerks replaced mine for $495 with one year warranty. It's been working about a year now ok. I was about to send my spare to them but I will wait and check with Full Logic.

My "brain" is back, I am going down to the Fedex office now to pick it up.
The tech from the rebuilder spoke to me briefly, but I was in the car and could not write anything down. He mentioned that some parts where damaged relating to 5 volt sensors reporting to the ECM...??? Suggesting that whatever fried the unit in the first place could do it again.
So the big question: Can I do any testing or just pray and plug the darn thing back in?
Any suggestions would be greatly apreciated.
Cheers,
Sab.

That's what it sounds to me. On the instructions I just received with the unit it instructs to check the alternator for shorts, bad grounds ETC.
Would be nice if I had a working '87 S4 to test this brain in.
